Ever fleeting happiness

Tabbruis never remembered Charmeine or their Son, Shane, when he woke up in the middle-east desert.

Tabbruis thought, ‘It has to be a blessing, I did not remember them.  I would have been searching 8 millennia for my family but they were not on the Earth yet.’

Nevertheless, the loneliness he experienced was painful even now as he thought about it.  Since he woke up in the desert alone thousands of years ago, he was an island of a man and the canon of solitude and unhappiness engulfed him.

Tabbruis became scared because he had so much love in his life now.  Charmeine and his family was his lifeline, his heartbeat, his everything.  He needed both her and his family, especially ‘Baby Hunter,’ as she liked to call the baby.

When she told him about the baby, he was so happy he thought his heart would explode.

So many moments of happiness had happened to him since Charmeine came into his life.  His heart began to beat when he saw ‘her face’ above his in the Jones Beach parking lot. His passion burned and never had been extinguished since their wedding night when he gave himself to the only woman he wanted on the Earth.  Also his faith in God was renewed when he saw her in Heaven choose to come back to be with him and their family.

Now, his contentment thrived in Charmeine’s womb ready to be born in a few months.  He put his hand on her belly as she slept, felt the heartbeat of his unborn child and welled with a tear of joy.

He thanked God for the comfort and love she gave him in Heaven and on the Earth.

Wanting to be a good Husband and Father, Tabbruis read books about the stages of pregnancy.  He took care of her as much as possible.  However, she did not like being coddled.  He knew she put up with his special treatment because of Baby Hunter.

Dr. Laura told them at the last ultrasound, Baby Hunter was starting the third trimester.

He wanted to know if Dr. Laura could tell the sex of the baby.  However, Charmeine, either from superstition or just to be surprised when the baby was born, did not want to know. All she wanted was for Baby Hunter to be healthy.

Everyone in the Castle Charmeine were on 24 hour baby patrol.

In between the weddings, all the men of the castle: Tabbruis, Shane, Neal, Hameal, Dmitri, Thomas, and even young Percival, started to construct baby furniture and design and build editions to Castle Charmeine by hand.

Hameal was a builder and saw to it Castle Charmeine was transformed into a baby proof home which was a huge undertaking, to say the least, with an ancient castle!

All the men had managed to build and transform the room next to Tabbruis and Charmeine’s Master Suite into the perfect nursery and playroom.

Dr. Laura and Sandra were busy with the Infirmary and preparing it for every contingency even with a sterile operating room.

The Infirmary came in handy when Percival hammered his thumb instead the head of the nail crushing his bone.  Dr. Laura and Sandra fixed him up but Dmitri gave him some blood, and he was fine in a few days.

Sandra, Dr. Laura, Hera and young Athena were in shopping mode.  They were making bi-weekly trips to Bucharest in between weddings for everything Baby Hunter would need.

Dr. Laura was glad Charmeine’s travel and flight time was over, she was skeptical of any pregnant woman flying in the third trimester.

Tabbruis was just glad the family was back at home in Romania with Charmeine and Baby Hunter in his arms safe and secure.  He bent down to kiss her on the head.  More content than he ever thought he could be.

It seemed Castle Charmeine was the happiest place on Earth…

*****

It was about 3:00 a.m. when the perimeter alarms went off.

Tabbruis and Charmeine awoke with a start.

He used his Blood-Hunter senses to make sure everyone in the castle was okay.

She looked at him with fear and trepidation grasping her belly as if to protect Baby Hunter.

He got out of bed, turned on the lights, dressed and was on his cell with Dmitri just as she was able to roll herself out bed.  He handed her a sweater, yoga pants and tennis shoes.  “Charmeine, we need to get to Dmitri’s study.  All the surveillance equipment is there.”

Tabbruis knew in his heart that this was ominous…

Happiness is ever fleeting for all of us,

It seems that there is more bad than good.

Hang onto those who make you happy and cherish them!
