Book Trailer for Charmeine – Mactus – Accendo in The Light Bearer Series
When the daring Miss Clarke enters a gentlemen’s club in London on one cold day in January, the year 1714, she is met with a most cunning vampire who would only see her his before the night is through.
With several onlookers, unwanted solicitations, and the watching dark eyes of the mysterious Alexander upon her, Miss Patricia Clarke is forced before long to decide whether her desired night of frowned-upon fun is worth the trouble…and the blood…in A NIGHT OF FRIVOLITY.
Truthfully, I don’t liken myself a fan of Anne Rice or even much period piece literature, so I went into this short story with mixed feelings. That being said, having finished the story – I have to say, I was impressed. Despite not being a fan of the genre, S.C. Parris still managed to captivate me with the style and prose of which it was written and delivered a really good and interesting tale. I’m not going to delve much into the storyline since it is a new release and I’m not looking to spoil, but I have to give props to anyone who can get me fully invested in a story, regardless of how long or short, in spite of having a pre-conceived stance on the genre of which it happens to reside. ANoF is a worthwhile read, not just for horror fans, but for readers in general. I recommend.
To start things off, how about you introduce yourself to readers who many not be familiar?
“I’m Sheron Sylvestre (pen name S.C. Parris), I live on Long Island with my family and my Siberian Husky. I’ve written stories and poems for as long as I can remember, had half-starts with stories when I was younger, and had a poem published in a book of students’ poetry in middle school. I’ve explored many avenues of art, such as drawing and the like, but the things that have stayed with me have been writing (books, poems, screenplays), and acting. I guess I’m just drawn to the written word – or at least story-telling.”
Who would you cite as your primary influences?
“Edgar Allan Poe jump-started my love of writing. His macabre, grim, yet beautiful way of penning a horror story/poem reached my adolescent heart in ways I didn’t even realize would influence me so directly. J.K. Rowling is, of course, another inspiration of mine as I’ve read her books since my mother pushed the first Harry Potter in my hands and told me it was okay to read. I believe it’s Misses Rowling that’s really inspired me to set aside the short stories and poems and delve into full-length stories. I also pick up bits and pieces from all authors’ works I read, far too many to name, of course.”
Why don’t you tell us, without spoiling anything, what your short story is about?
“A woman with a head for rebellion meets her match in a strange man on a night out in town.”
You actively chose to set the story in the 1700s. What was it about that era that you found so appealing?
“Ah, I’ve always been drawn to the cobble-stoned streets, gas-lit lamps, and horse drawn carriages that marked that period. There was always something magical about it and I guess I find it somehow easier to draw upon the world and characters that live (and thrive) in that time. I have been called an “old soul” by many.”
Recently the whole ‘vampire’ genre has undergone a complete makeover as a result of the Twilight series, and I think a lot would argue for the worse. Where do you stand on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series?
“I read New Moon first without knowing it was part of a series and there were many times that I literally threw the book across the room – I’m obviously not a fan of what Mrs. Meyer has “done” to the vampire genre. […] I believe that she hasn’t really done anything to the vampire genre – only put her own bizarre twist on these creatures and called them ‘vampire’. Regardless, there is something enigmatic about vampires, about the burdens they face, their lust for something they cannot possess freely – it’s all fascinating to me and it always has been. (My mother confessed to watching tons of vampire movies while I was still in the womb.)”
Where do you think your interest stemmed from?
“I believe my first (memorable) encounter with vampires was in the movie Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) – I was equal parts horrified and enamored with the creature that wrapped so many around his long finger. The lore has stayed with me ever since.”
In your opinion, what do you consider the greatest vampire story ever told?
“As I’m not yet finished reading the original novel of Dracula by the one and only Bram Stoker, I can’t count it as one of the greatest ever told, though it sure is shaping up that way. Of all the vampire novels I’ve read and movies I’ve seen, I’m hard pressed to name one that’s stood out to me as the greatest ever told. If movies are allowed in this, I would say the movie adaptation of Interview with the Vampire has stuck with me as a great vampire story, though I haven’t read the original novel so I’m not certain how much weight that holds.”
Do you have any other writing projects coming up? What other genres do you like to explore?
“I have many. I’ve self-published two vampire/fantasy novels (The Dark World & The Immortal’s Guide) in the past two years and I’ve three more in that series due out soon. Besides those, I’ve many other projects lined up to be completed either this year or within the next two. One of those being a paranormal romance set in modern times currently entitled ‘Judgment’ and another that will be the start of a new series, a purely fantasy/adventure novel set around an assassin/mercenary and his band of hired men as they go around their deceptive world, doing the most untouchable work for the highest pay.”

Once in the hospital, Dr. Laura ordered Sandra and Thomas into action to care for the dark and beautiful woman. They hovered around the table like a team from an emergency room.
The rest of the family stood back.
Tabbruis and Dmitri were in the front, and stared at the woman on the table.
“Who is this Bath-person?” Charmeine was filled with anger, fury, and most of all, jealousy!
“I don’t care who she is. I’m saving her life. Everyone who isn’t helping, get out now!” Laura commanded.
“You heard the doctor, out!” Sandra ordered.
As the family moved out of the room, Charmeine grabbed Tabbruis by the arm. She saw he was in actual pain. “Look me in the eyes, and tell me who this woman is to you.”
He shook his head and protested, “Wait with the questions, Charmeine? I do not know if Bathsheba is even going to live yet.”
The worry he had for the woman was apparent to her.
Dmitri reassured Tabbruis, “Laura is a good doctor. She will find a way to save Bathsheba. Do not fear, Brother.”
“Tabbruis? Who is this Bath-Bitch to you?” Charmeine hissed as the her heart began to pump feeling as jealousy like a poison throughout her body.
He gave her a drop-dead look. Annoyed, he put his hands over his eyes, rubbed them and shook his head. Suddenly, be yelled, “Not now, Charmeine! Not now! And her name is Bathsheba! You should address her with her proper name. Do you hear me? Do you?”
She crossed her hands over her body as to shield herself from the harshness of his words and turned away. The baby turned flip-flops because she felt like she had been kicked in the stomach. The emotions of hate and ire stirred inside as she hung her head and went to the corner of the hallway outside of the hospital. “God, what is going on? He’s never been hateful to me. Now she’s here, and I’m nothing?” she whispered. It seemed she didn’t matter at all to him.
Hameal saw Charmeine’s pain and gave a fierce look to Tabbruis and Dmitri. “My God, she is with child! How can you two be so cruel? Especially you, Tabbruis!”His hand sparked red as he pointed to them.
She put her head on the wall for support. “It’s okay Hameal. I’m fine.” Charmeine scowled at Tabbruis, “I can take care of myself,” and turned her heavy head the other way.
Hameal put his hand on her shoulder and bent down to look in her eyes, “Come and sit with me. You need to rest, Charmeine.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I wrote this I was thinking about ‘Losing It’…
In the hospital hallway, the rays of the sun peaked through the windows. Shane hung his head and missed Char already. He could sense she wasn’t on the property anymore.
Neal said with a soft pat on the back, “Come Shane, let us go check on the guests. We need to make sure this trouble is not being caused by them.”
Shane nodded and gave his father a disgusted look.
Neal and Shane left.
Ever since he laid eyes on Bathsheba, Tabbruis was in a private Hell. All he thought was, ‘God, how can she be alive?’ He could not comprehend what happened, his mind was clouded and everyone around him seemed inconsequential. When Charmeine tried to talk to him, he could not even imagine how he could explain his relationship with her. He just wanted Bathsheba to be okay.
Dmitri put his hand on his shoulder and tried to comfort him.
Tabbruis could see Dmitri’s pain also.
‘I cannot understand what is happening,’ Dmitri thought as he hung his head. He looked at Hera, and saw the sting of her disapproving eyes drill into his soul.
She turned around and comforted the children.
Dmitri could hear her tell them everything would be alright. He could see his family was wounded, but he turned away. They were able to see his actions on Earth while in Heaven. He shuddered with a cold chill down his spine and turned red from shame.
Tabbruis looked at Hera and the children while they cried. He thought,‘How can I tell Charmeine about Bathsheba? How can I explain?’
Tabbruis and Dmitri were ashamed and out of control whenever it came to the attractive Bathsheba. They never had restraint in her presence and became brutal adversaries for her affection. She always tried to drive a wedge in-between them. In a final showdown, they almost annihilated each other to win her like a prize. They were ripped apart as Brothers because of their inner, animalistic drives. Bathsheba was almost their ruination!
“He is at the Lanesborough Hotel in London,” Tabbruis replied. “I do not know if this is a permanent or transitory residence.” He looked across the table, “Hameal, what have you found out?”
Like a GQ model, Hameal slicked back his black hair, and reported, “We have two friends, Muriel and Kristina, who are both well-connected among the Light-Bearer network. Muriel told us that the Lanesborough Hotel has been under surveillance ever since the location was revealed. The network believes it to be his permanent residence because he has taken over the top floor. Much of the staff has had their minds clouded. The death toll and people reported missing has gone up in London. The Light-Bearers are sure it is only a matter of time before the Blood-Hunters are discovered.”
“Through the Light-Bearer network, they were able to surmise Lord Cromwell’s plan is to neutralize the London area with his talents of clouding minds,” Neal added. He turned and looked at Charmeine, “We deduced, and it was confirmed today Lord Cromwell means to capture you, my Queen. We believe you are his prime target, and it appears, he will do anything to get at you.”
“Yes, I’m prepared to battle him,” she sighed and took a big breath. “I know God has given me the gifts and my family to do it. But my chief objective is to keep Baby Hunter safe…” she rubbed her belly and held it. “The baby must be unharmed. I have faith God will help me. I cannot be scared. If I let that emotion in, it will consume me.”
Tabbruis felt her fear. He put his hand on her shoulder and on Baby Hunter. He smiled, and reassured her.
She relaxed and smiled at him.
“I am your Protector as always. For all of the family,” Neal resolved. “Especially for little Baby Hunter, I will guard your child with my life.”
“Yes, we all will watch your baby,” Dmitri said as he looked at everyone. “Baby Hunter is our family, and my Queen, we always protect family!”
Everyone at the table nodded, and reassured Charmeine and Tabbruis they would defend Baby Hunter.
She smiled with relief and said, “Thank you.” She put her hand on Tabbruis’ face and looked in his eyes. She wanted him to know that she trusted him most of all.
“My Queen, Lord Cromwell is heavily guarded,” Neal said with a furrowed brow. “His followers will do whatever he wants.”
“Muriel assured us they will monitor any movement in or out,” Hameal added.
“Wait, you said the Light-Bearers were watching him, right?” Laura asked. “Then how did he send his men to the Disney Hotel to kidnap Charmeine if they did not come from the Lanesborough Hotel in London?”
“Good question Laura,” Thomas added. “They must have moved out before the operatives took up surveillance?”
“No, that is not the case,” Hameal said with a scowl. “They left from Heathrow Airport, in London, on March 3rd, but the Light-Bearer Network lost them.
Sandra grimaced and added, “Mom and Dad, Lord Cromwell’s squad was here, in Orlando, ready and waiting for ambush.” She took a crumpled receipt out of her pocket, and handed it to Charmeine.
When she saw it, her face went blank, and the slip of paper dropped through her fingers.
Tabbruis took the receipt as it fell out of her hand and gasped, “March 4th? But how? How did they know?”
“We didn’t know either Dad until Sandra looked at the date on the receipt,” Shane replied. “She had a suspicion we’d been spied on. We searched our belongings for surveillance devices and bugs. Sandra found the bugs in our iPhones.”
“You have to get rid of those phones,” Charmeine ordered in alarm. “He’ll know you’re here.”
“Chill Char, we weren’t born yesterday,” Shane laughed. “We destroyed our phones at the hotel and threw them away. Before we came to the house, we stopped off and bought a couple untraceable iPhones.”
Both Charmeine and Tabbruis took a sigh of relief.
“Nevertheless, we need to start making some security sweeps of everywhere we go, our iPhones, and our belongings routinely,” Shane advised.
Dmitri shook his head in disgust. “We need to get the equipment to do those security sweeps immediately.”
Shane and Sandra smiled wide and gave each other high fives. “Dmitri, we have the equipment, that’s what took us so long to get here. We called in a favor with a friend of ours from the Army, and he set us up. The equipment is in our bedroom. The house is clear, we checked before we came down.”
All of a sudden Sandra’s face went black, and she banged her hands on the table and yelled, “The bugging must have happened when we were in Greece!” She sighed out, “But we were surrounded by people sympathetic to our cause or at least, we thought so.”
Charmeine’s eyes widened and asked, “Do you believe we have a spy among us?”
Suddenly, on a dime, his life changes on a dime finding Everville. As the world and Everville are on a collision course. He must learn to save the worlds.
Wonderful book and I would recommend it highly! I just love the cover alone! It conjures up all sorts of thoughts in my head! For this and so much more, I give “Everville” by Roy Huff FIVE STARS!
As you follow Owen in his quest for greater good and restoring the balance in his world and Everville you are not just watching idly the story unfold in front of you. Owen has a way to make you inherent part of the story. You learn with him and his quest becomes your Odyssey. The world created by Roy Huff is filled with details and novelty. I wasn’t going to blog today. But I wanted to write this, for some reason.
Seems to me I have been programmed. When I feel sad or blue, I have always been told these main things:
Keep a stiff upper lip, kiddo.
Cheer up, things will get better soon. Have faith.
When God closes a door, He opens a window. Daylight hasn’t broken yet.
This one, I love…no one likes a party pooper!
Well, I’m here to say that being in a blue kind of situation, I was forcing myself to edit my up and coming book, Seditious. I have my cup of tea and sat myself by a window. I can see the rain falling against the green leaves of the tree next to my window. I was lost in editing, and I saw this passage. It made me feel a bit better…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tabbruis rolled over and pulled Charmeine like a blanket next to him.
Exhausted and happy, she nestled against his body and laid her head on his chest.
The feel of their naked bodies against each other was sublime. The satisfaction of their arms around each other made them feel content.
“I’m forever yours,” she whispered as she clung to him.
“I am so happy you are in my arms, Charmeine.”
She smiled and yawned, “Like two peas in a pod…” and fell asleep in mid-sentence.
Tabbruis looked at her sweet face and peace settled upon him. Against his body, he felt his baby stir in her womb, and his contentment was complete.
He knew her wound from Bathsheba was deep. He vowed to do whatever he could to heal it. No longer did he doubt their love would survive. His life had purpose and meaning with her.
Tabbruis reflected how Charmeine gathered the family with her acceptance and love. She brought forth God’s light, and it emanated around her. She was honest, kind to a fault, and totally different from the abomination Bathsheba.
Their path through life was painted with sedition, but Tabbruis knew the love they felt for each other would save them.
Lord Cromwell was a powerful and heinous threat, but together, with God, and their family, they would be able to carry out their mission. Tabbruis swore no one would take her away from him. He would be her Champion and Protector. She was his divine purpose in Heaven and on Earth.
Tabbruis kissed her head and whispered, “Semper tuus ero, my Angel Charmeine,” and fell asleep with her tightly woven in his arms.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why did this make me feel better?
I don’t know, maybe it was the part where Tabbruis put aside his doubts and fears and just gave himself into the moment of being content and happy with Charmeine.
Maybe, if we all just looked around at our loved ones and was serene in knowing times will be tough, but you will make it through today, tomorrow and always… together.
Athena still shrieked, and Charmeine shouted, “Just do as they say! Everything will be okay.”
“All will be well Athena, believe me!” Percival stressed.
Athena quieted down, but tears rolled down her face. She winced from the painful Blood-Hunter grip.
Charmeine smelled a sickening, sweet, musk, perfume and sensed another Blood-Hunter.
Across the room, she saw an exotic, dark, and beautiful young woman walk in the Grand Hall. She was dressed in a tight, bodice, black coat with a plunging neckline. The coat accented her voluptuous figure and long slender neck. The lady’s hair was raven black which hung down her back. She was very slim but athletic. The Blood-Hunter woman’s lips were painted like rubies. Outlined in thick black mascara, her pupils were the color of deep indigo. In fact, they were a hypnotizing blue.
Charmeine had to admit, she was beautiful.
Percival, on the other hand, had a totally different reaction. He was breathed harder.
Charmeine didn’t think it was from the danger. She knew it was from the female’s magnetism and rolled her eyes in disgust. She knew this woman was a very powerful Blood-Hunter.
“Ah, yes, very good gentlemen. We have her now.” The mysterious woman told the men in a heavy, French accent. She gazed with wide spellbinding eyes at Charmeine like a cat ready to pounce on her prey.
The man who held Charmeine pushed and shoved her to go out the terrace doors to the Formal Rose Garden.
She struggled to gain some kind of fighting advantage.
The Light-Bearers practiced their self-defense skills with Sandra, and worked on how to get out these hand-binding holds. After Charmeine’s encounters with Pascal, she never wanted to feel helpless again. With speed and accuracy, she used her power to fly up backwards over the head of the Blood-Hunter. She broke out of his grip. Immediately, she leveled him with a powerful and fierce bolt of white electricity which stunned him in a stupor.
Percival took this opportunity to sweep the legs of the man who was held him. He stunned his assailant, and made him fall down in pain with a green charge which ran up and down his body.
“Use your light for Athena!” Charmeine yelled to Percival.
Percival threw a green lightning bolt at the man who held Athena.
Within a second, the Blood-Hunter was on the ground. A green current cursed through him.
“Halt!” the Blood-Hunter woman demanded.
Charmeine looked up and a hand gun was aimed at her belly.
The woman widened her indigo eyes, fangs exposed. She threatened, “You really never know where a bullet will go? Do you?” she laughed.
Her maniacal giggles curdled Charmeine’s blood. She could tell the Blood-Hunter woman was telling the truth.
“Yes, the bullet could just land somewhere very unhealthy for your unborn spawn.” She circled Charmeine like a cat on a prowl. “Not that hurting spawn of this Light-Bearer scum would matter,” she quipped in a matter of fact way.
Charmeine began to feel waves of nausea and fought the urge to be sick.
“The offspring is just a by-product.” With a sinister laugh the woman scoffed, “Yes, a by-product which should be tossed aside and thrown away like the trash it is… as soon as we cut it out of you!” She began to laugh with a vicious tone and stuck the gun in Charmeine’s belly ready to pull the trigger.
Charmeine could see the Evil woman would think nothing of killing Baby Hunter. Right away she held her hands over her stomach and pleaded, “No please! I will do anything you want, don’t hurt my baby! Please!”
I have had tons of questions lately about my snippets and what my novels “The Light-Bearer Series” are about. I just thought that since most of the people who receive this blog post are my friends, I wanted you to know why I am so passionate about “The Light-Bearer Series,“ and love to share my passion with you!
First of all, plain and simple… I LOVE ROMANCE!
That’s it… I just love a great story of finding love, keeping love and being in love! When I wrote the novels I wanted a story to reflect that premise. Also, I really wanted a series of novels that was inclusive of everyone… no matter how different or broken.
I wanted “The Light-Bearer Series” to be about a classic couple… Tabbruis and Charmeine… who had to fight Heaven and Hell to be together because they were so different. She being an Angelic, Light-Bearer and Tabbruis being a Hellish Blood-Hunter… how they accepted and loved each other’s differences and short-comings… isn’t that what love is about… ACCEPTANCE?
Oh yes, Tabbruis’ name is pronounced, Tab-bree-us. You may think it is different, but that is the way I was taught to pronounce the Angel’s name in grade school.
When you see your love ones, you don’t see their idiosyncratic behavior or faults… you see the wonderful and special person that they are!
Now, when I wrote “Charmeine,” I wrote an epic novel.
When I say epic… I don’t mean “War and Peace” epic but somewhat close to it!
When I got published through PDMI Publishing, my publisher said, ”Emily, not for nothing but your novel is going to be about 800 pages! You should really think about splitting “Charmeine” up!”
So, I thought long and hard about it. I was very resistant to change.
However, I looked at other novels in my genre, Paranormal Romance, (PNR), Young Adult, (YA), and the publisher was right. So that is why I split “Charmeine” into three novels ”Charmeine,” “Mactus” and “Accendo” which are easy to read and not get lost in.
Then I had to follow suit with “Ransom” also. I had to split “Ransom” into two novels and they are “Seditious” and “Ransom.”
So, I have been giving you snippets of these wonderful LOVE STORIES for months now. I have enjoyed it immensely!
However, now, I am doing them now with a twist and giving you a snippet but also giving you a personal thought at the end with a video emphasizing that post. I love music very much. As a musician, this is a wonderful way to convey what my feelings and post are about!
PDMI hasn’t got all of the novels on Amazon yet but they are coming soon! That’s because of me! Editing is hard to do when you work full time and go to school full time. My only time to edit is late at night.
I hope when it is finished you will join me there. Take a peek at it… it is awesome!
SO without further ado… these are my novels and what each one is about!
PS: at the end I have a little video treat for you too!
This song is how I feel about romance and I melt when I listen to it!
Enjoy and give your loved one a kiss and hug today!
Sandra said, “The radiant point for the South Taurids is found in southern constellation of Taurus!”
Charmeine shouted, “Hot damn! I think you’ve got it!”
Sandra replied, “You bet your ass I got it!” and smiled with self-satisfaction. Charmeine and Sandra bumped knuckles together.
Dmitri asked, “My Queen, may I have a word in edgewise?” and he frowned at Sandra.
Charmeine becoming more reserved answered, “Of course, you are my most trusted advisor Dmitri, outside of my husband.”
Dmitri said, “I am most honored,” and bowed, “I believe and most of us here who are experienced in battle, knows that the full moon will give us an advantage. With the moon at the most radiant, the Blood-Hunters cannot hide as easily.”
Neal said, “The tactical advantage would be optimum.”
Thomas said, “The full moon is almost always attended by the entire Elder Council.”
Shane said, “I agree Char, they’re right.”
Sandra protested, “But this is very important. We should at least listen to Mom! She may be right!”
Charmeine looked to Tabbruis, thinking he would give her support. However, Tabbruis said, “I believe the full moon would be our best advantage to attack.”
Then with determination Charmeine flung her shoulders back and stood tall. As if she was reinforcing her will, she took a deep breath said in command voice, “I do not know the reason why this date and this astronomical event are important, but it is. I trust you with my life. I have accepted each of you as my family. I will fight to my death to defeat the Elder Council. How can you not have faith in what I feel or in what I say? Do you not have confidence in your Queen? Do I hold no credence with my family or even My Champion?”
Charmeine looked at Tabbruis for his faith. She closed her eyes hoping Tabbruis would believe her, and reassure her.
Conversely, Charmeine heard Tabbruis say in a dismissive tone, “Darling, it is not that we do not have confidence in you, but we believe that the full moon on the 31st is our best option.”
Charmeine sternly asked, “How can you not trust me, My Champion?”
She walked at a very fast pace to the terrace. Before leaving the Dmitri’s study, Charmeine turned and yelled to the squad, “I believe in each of you! How can you not believe in me?”
Charmeine went out on the terrace.
Instantly, Tabbruis stood in front of her. He started to talk but she cut him off shouting, “You! You especially! Do not ever call me “darling” when I am with the squad. I want respect!”
Tabbruis said, “You have my respect but in this case, we are the more experienced fighters. Do not get upset…” He stopped talking because he noticed her hands beginning to light with a current.
Everyone was gathering on the terrace.
Charmeine said in a strong booming voice, “The Elder Council will not fall on August 31st, but our family will! I know it. I know it in my heart and in my head. However, I will fight with my family to my death even though I know it is wrong! It is very wrong!”
Tabbruis said in a soothing manner, “Charmeine everything is going to be fine. We have a great plan for the battle. We have talked it all the way through. Darling, trust me everything will be fine.”
With a steel determination laced with disgust, Charmeine yelled, “Trust you? Trust you? Tabbruis I am incensed you do not trust my instincts. What kind of love and belief do you have in me? As long I play your game, everything will be fine? And you call yourself, My Champion? How dare you say you are My Champion? My Champion would believe in me!”
Tabbruis getting angry, embarrassed and frustrated said harshly, “Charmeine you should trust MY judgment! I am the experienced fighter. Everyone in this squad has fought tactical battles except you Charmeine! If I had my way Charmeine, you would not be there! However, I am allowing you to come along even though I know I will be worrying about you, instead of the squad!”
Charmeine was more than furious; she was disappointed, saddened and disheartened. It was clear Tabbruis really did not believe in her abilities to help win the battle. Most of all, he did not believe in her ability to lead!
Charmeine felt like Tabbruis threw a dagger at her; the dagger implanted in her was toxic and deep. She began to harden her heart towards him.
She thought, ‘The worst thing has happened to me; I have fallen in love with a man who does not believe in me!’
Charmeine was determined if she was ever going to be truly happy, Tabbruis had to believe in her. However, she could tell from his green eyes encircled in black, he did not. Tabbruis’ lack of faith in her was debilitating Charmeine. She felt like the wound in her heart Tabbruis had inflicted was poisoning her love. She had to leave before all the pieces of their love were burnt into ashes. Charmeine felt her soul becoming black with despair and fear. Her heart worked harder to pump the venom of doubt he released upon her.
Tabbruis sensed his heart was beginning to slow. He grabbed his chest and yelled with a look of fear on his face, “Charmeine? What is happening? Our hearts… Our hearts are…”
The wind started to pick up and whip around her and she said with a malicious tone, “After the battle and the Elder Council is dead, my alleged Champion and husband… I will go away… alone!”
A bolt of lightning crashed down with deafening thunder and wind.
Tabbruis could see Charmeine’s ring fall as in slow motion in front of him. As he reached out to catch the ring, Charmeine’s body was not there.
Tabbruis felt his heart barely beating, struggling to pump!
Charmeine was gone and her love was gone with her!
Jack Wendell is a person with Down’s Syndrome and a Gold Medal Special Olympics runner! He is bit one night by a rabid vampire and the adventure begins there.
Jack finds there is a world that he never knew about but in books and that wasn’t even right. There are vampires who are human and then there are vampires who are alien called, “Pures.”
Now, the human vampires have a rule that any vampire which is mentally handicapped is put to death.
So, needless to say, Jack is on the run for his life from a merciless venerator, (vampire law-keeper) Damien.
What makes it more confusing for Jack is that Damien’s wife, Lilith, is the Vampire President!
She wants to save Jack but Damien wants Jack DEAD!
Now, Lilith is not all warm and loving… no way! She is just as twisted and ruthless as her husband, Damien. They have a small love and big hate relationship. Damien and Lilith are constantly one-upping each other. Damien with his mistress and Lilith with her covertly hiding Jack. The power-play between these unsavory characters was vicious.
Damien can’t get Jack so he calls in the “Big Guns” from Romania to catch him called Zetania! She is an accomplished venerator and very skilled to bring Jack in.
However, what Damien doesn’t know is that she is working on the slide for Lilith… How can Jack survive? Will he be able to change the world of human vampires? Will he make them accept him the way he is?
My thoughts
“Vampire Syndrome” by Daven Anderson is a ground-breaking and unbelievable vampire story.
I was taken aback at how he was able to actually capture Jack’s thought process so clearly. I have a brother who is mentally handicapped and the words and actions were so similar… it was like my brother was talking. I also thought Jack was the only hero of the book. The vampires were so twisted on either side and Jack was the only light to make both sides come together.
I was amazed by some of the action sequences because they were so well detailed and drawn out. Mr. Anderson’s writing is well-thought out and kept moving. There was something on each page of my Kindle that made you want to hit the arrow button to the other page. I was spellbound by “Vampire Syndrome.”
The point of view was textbook and easy to read. Mr. Anderson depicted word pictures that made my imagination fly. The characters were three-dimensional and fluid. Critically, I thought the book to be almost perfect.
Please be aware “Vampire Syndrome” has two versions one is YOUNG ADULT and one is EROTIC.
However, if you are a Paranormal Fan like me and want a pioneering, innovative and action packed vampire story, “Vampire Syndrome” is for you!
For this and so much more, I give Daven Anderson’s “Vampire Syndrome” a hearty five star rating!
“Vampire Syndrome”
Synopsis
Can Special Oympics champion Jack Wendell survive, now that he’s been turned into a vampire?
All Jack wants is to be accepted as a valued member of the vampire community. But he can’t do this when Chief Venator (vampire law enforcer) Damien Tepesh has ordered Jack to be killed.
Fortunately, Jack wins the respect of a powerful ally. Lilith Morrigan, President of the Vampires, hides Jack from the ruthless Venators and gives him a chance to prove his worth. But she cannot stop her husband Damien from targeting Jack.
Damien summons Romania’s Chief Venator Zetania Vinescu to Colorado to help him hunt Jack. Lilith over-rides her husband and orders Zetania to protect Jack from the Venators.
As Damien and Lilith battle over control of Jack, a new threat emerges. A space-alien Pure vampire has come to Colorado, specifically to kidnap Jack. Even if Damien and Lilith settle their differences, can they keep Jack safe from the Pures?
Interview with Daven Anderson
WELCOME Daven!
Please share about how in the world did you come up with the idea for “Vampire Syndrome”?
On June 13, 2009, I finished reading “Breaking Dawn.” I found the ending to be flat, and I thought, “I could write something better that that.” By the time I went to bed that night, I had the basic storyline and my four main characters (Jack, Damien, Lilith and Zetania) clearly defined in my mind.
“Vampire Syndrome” is so different from what I’ve ever read before. What was the thought process behind it? Did you have to do research into the condition of Down’s syndrome?
I have worked side-by-side with special-needs individuals (Down Syndrome, autistic, etc.) for over twenty years. The grocery industry makes notable efforts to employ special-needs individuals and use their skills to the best advantage for all concerned. Special-needs individuals are valuable members of our team, just like anyone else. When they work as a team with everyone else, it builds their self-esteem and gives them a sense a purpose in the world. That’s what we all want, really!
When you have worked with special-needs persons for as long as I have, I have done all the “research” I could ever need to do simply by observing them, interacting with them, and being friends with them. As Yogi Berra said, “You can observe a lot just by watching.”
I have a brother who is mentally handicapped. I know from experience how my brother was treated. I was always in defense of him and taking care of him… even though he was older. Can you share some of your personal thought about Down’s syndrome and how our society lifts or lets down the handicapped?
I could write a non-fiction book or three simply from my experiences at work. One of our special-needs employees was featured in a local newspaper article for his outstanding customer service skills. Does it get any better than that? On the darker side, we once had to call the police to deal with a pack of youths who were bullying an autistic employee and physically preventing him from collecting our shopping carts. Not the best idea when the police station is one block away from our store! Over a dozen cop cars showed up.
The saddest thing is when you get that rare customer who is prejudiced against special-needs individuals. One obviously biased woman asked me to get another sacker to finish bagging her order. I refused to do so, and I told her “*** is doing his job correctly.” I refused to put up with her degrading treatment, because *** is not just my co-worker, he is my friend.
One of the most important points I make in my book is that cunning and quick wit do not equal wisdom. Damien and Lilith excel in cunning and quick-witted strategy, but many of their actions are not wise. In terms of their actions, Jack is the wisest character in my book. He is the only one who always does what he should be doing.
In our everyday lives, most all of us will know at least one “smart” person who makes bad choices. What my novel shows you is that wisdom is not defined by a person’s I.Q. score. The special-needs people I’ve worked with for twenty years are some of the wisest people I will ever know.
If someone else was describing “Vampire Syndrome” what would they say?
“It sure is original.” I think I’ve succeeded in crafting a novel where even its harshest critics will have to concede that it is at least an original concept, and that I wrote it the way I wanted to do it.
The feedback I’ve received has been much better than I thought. I was worried that some people would be turned off by the harsh nature of Damien and Lilith’s antagonistic marriage relationship, which is basically a vampire version of “War Of The Roses” or “Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry.” Then I combined that with Jack, who is a vampire version of “Forrest Gump.” Not the most obvious combination, I admit, but it sure is original!
I love this question because you never know what you will come up with… what random fact about yourself that would surprise your fans and our readers?
I am a big fan of the TV series “Xena: Warrior Princess.”
Why are you drawn to be a great Author of Paranormal? Why Vampires especially?
Explaining thousands of years of worldwide vampire folklore in scientific and rational terms was the most enjoyable challenge I’ve had in my life. I ended up with two types of vampires, humans and the alien “Pures.” I couldn’t rationalize, in scientific terms, the human body changing enough to combust in sunlight, generate inner gravity to cling to walls and ceilings, or to suddenly become garlic-averse after years of eating garlic as a normal human. But when you have an alien race, all of these become easy to explain. If the Pures’ home planet had full cloud cover, they did not evolve with a tolerance for direct UV radiation from sunlight. No life form on Earth (that I know of) generates its own inner gravitational forces, but the Pures are aliens. And their home planet has no acidic plants such as onions or garlic, meaning the Pures did not evolve with a tolerance for same.
Some people will say the scariest thing about my novel is that all my explanations of this folklore make sense.
Who are your favorite authors and why?
Philip K. Dick. The closer we get to his visions of the future, the more we realize how right he was. By the time “Minority Report” came out as a movie, everyone in the audience knew those personalized advertising holograms will soon be possible.
William Shakespeare. The human conditions he expresses are timeless.
If you could live during any period in time, when would it be and who would you be?
Right now. It’s an exciting time to be an author, living in the greatest period of literary change since the Gutenberg Press was invented.
Do you have a day job? If so, how does your writing fit in?
My working closely for with special-needs people for over twenty years in the grocery business has allowed me to craft a uniquely realistic first-person point of view, seen through the eyes of a special-needs person. So far, every reader of Vampire Syndrome who has a special-needs family member or friend has agreed that Jack’s point of view is right on target.
And, working in the retail grocery business for that length of time will educate you about everything you would ever want to know about human nature, whether you wished to learn it or not.
Can you can share with us about books you have written after “Vampire Syndrome”?
I’m working on “Vampire Conspiracy”, the second novel of the ”Vampire Syndrome” trilogy. And “Sisters Of The Alpha Moon”, a novel about an all-female werewolf pack.
It will be quite a task to re-invent the werewolf universe in the same manner that I did for vampires in “Vampire Syndrome.” Including a more precise explanation for what silver bullets actually do to their kind.
Daven, THANK YOU being a guest on ”FANGS and HEARTS” week!
I’m thrilled to be here. Thank YOU for this wonderful interview!
Daven Anderson Bio:
After forty-plus years of reading other people’s books, Daven Anderson was finally motivated to create his own. Daven’s close working relationships with special-needs individuals led him to create character Jack Wendell, the world’s first dignified, sympathetic special-needs vampire hero.
Daven’s love of black comedies led him to create characters Damien Tepesh and Lilith Morrigan. Selfish, battling, power-tripping spouses who are the perfect foils for Jack’s generous heart and his earnest truth. Daven’s admiration of those who persevere against social prejudice led him to create Zetania Vinescu, Gypsy vampire and Jack’s protector. Daven’s love of musclecars and the open road led to the vampires’ high-octane adventures all across the beautiful state of Colorado.
Last but not least, Daven’s extensive computers skills brought Vampire Syndrome to your e-reader!
Is this the end of my life? Am I gonna die? The girl in the pink tank-top shoves me down to the ground and bares her fangs. This can’t be. Vampires are just in books and movies. And she’s wearing a big cross, too. Aren’t Vampires afraid of crosses?
I fight to slip free from her grip. She’s shrieking like a wounded animal as she tries to bite my neck. Just as I get my left arm free, she grabs it. The girl twists my arm behind my back, leans down and bites my neck hard.
Her fangs sink in. The pain sends shock waves through my upper body. I can feel her sucking blood out of my neck vein.
Gross.
Three people run up to us, grab the girl and try to pull her off of me. A tall guy wraps his arms around her torso and yells “Let him go!”
At last, the people manage to pull the screaming girl off me. I push myself up from the pavement and run down Lowell Boulevard, to get back to my group home. And get as far as I can from that mad, biting lady.
What the hell just happened? One moment, I was running practice laps on the Mullen High School track. Next thing I knew, some crazy lady with Vampire teeth jumped on me and bit my neck. Hard.
I look back. No one’s after me. Good. I slow down from my running and start to walk.
Her teeth were probably fake, but they were sharp enough to pierce my skin. I reach up to my neck and feel the bite area.
Just a few drops of blood are on my fingertips. That’s odd. I should be bleeding a lot more, ’cause she sunk her teeth in deep. I’ve had paper cuts that bled a lot more than this, and they hardly hurt at all. My neck is still sore.
Could she have been a real Vampire? I don’t think so. I look west toward the mountains. The sun hasn’t even gone down yet. Vampires can’t go out in sunlight, or they’d burn up.
Sirens, in the distance. I bet they’re cops going to arrest that crazy lady. Good. She needs to go to jail. Jumping on people and biting them is an assault charge, like I saw on Cops.
She might kick the policemen and bite them, too, like the long-haired shirtless guy did in that trailer park episode.
I’m walking uphill on Lowell Boulevard. Feels like I’m in slow motion. Oxford Street can’t be more than two blocks away, but it’s taking forever for me to get there.
My head feels like it’s floating in space. But I’m not dizzy, like I was the first time I got off a roller coaster. I was seven years old. I could barely stand up after I rode Mister Twister. Right now, I’m walking just fine. It just seems like time’s standing still.
Tabbruis’ heart was full of love and joy. He sat on the bed and catched his breath.
He knew Charmeine was still soaking in the bathtub.
He walked to his dresser and took out a box, and spied two rings and retreived them with a big smile on his face.
Tabbruis got undressed and put on silk pajamas and a matching silk robe. He slipped the ring into his robe pocket and opened the door to the porch. The air from the Black Sea was gently cooling down the suite.
He smelled all sorts of scents. He especially could smell the scent of roses, coming from the bath Charmeine was taking.
He called the kitchen and asked for some food to be brought up with Ţuică and a crystal decanter of blood. He rather liked the way Neal drank it and wanted to savor it again that way. He had always deprived himself of riches and extravagances; however, with someone to share with, it seemed like so much fun.
A knock at the door brought Tabbruis out of his revelries. He opened it, and Thomas brought in a cart stocked with all sorts of fruits, cheeses, nuts and of course, the Ţuică in one decanter and blood in another decanter. As if they read his mind, on the cart there was a small vase full of red roses.
“Thomas, were you able to bring the Coke?”
“Oh yes, it is in the cooler on the second level, Tabbruis
“I am in your debt. Thank you for this kindness.”
Thomas smiled and said, “Welcome and enjoy!” and left.
Tabbruis took a couple of the roses and picked the petals off of the stem and spread them out over the bed and put some on the pillows. He took the cart out to the terrace. He filled two glasses with the plum wine, Ţuică.
Getting a funny feeling about what he was going to do… he was nervous!
He was nervous about asking the woman he already knew to be his wife and he had a child with, if he could marry her properly in a ceremony with witnesses. He felt a flip in his stomach and hoped she would say yes and thought, ‘Oh God, what if she refuses me?’ Tabbruis thought his heart would break in half if she did.
Tabbruis sat on a lounge chair and closed his eyes. He began to push his fears away because he knew Charmeine was his and he was hers. As Tabbruis relaxed, his mind unraveled and he began to sleep and dream of Charmeine.
*****
Charmeine soaked in the bath relaxing every muscle of her body. She kept thinking about what she must do to protect her family. She could not bear one person being sacrificed for her existence. A few days ago, Shane was a normal young man who was her best-friend, an adopted brother. Now, he was her son who had this immortal curse of being a Light-Bearer and Blood-Hunter in one. She knew Shane always felt like an outcast. More like a ‘no one’, who had no one. She felt like that also.
Charmeine got up out of the tub and patted herself down. She felt restless and guilty because so many of the people she loved were willing to sacrifice themselves for her. Charmeine went to the mirror and started brushing her wet hair and thought how she couldn’t let their destruction be because of her. Charmeine spied a robe on a shelf and wrapped it over herself. She felt like crying but she had no more tears.
Charmeine just got a family and home. Now, she had to sacrifice it all for them. She opened the door to the bathroom quietly in case Tabbruis was asleep, she did not want wake him. Charmeine looked at the bed and it had rose petals scattered on it. Even on the pillow cases. Quietly she said to herself, ‘Oh God, I love Tabbruis so much. Please help me keep him safe.’
She had to discover a way to get out of the castle compound, find the Elder Council and give herself up. Charmeine believed that the Elder Council would let Tabbruis, Neal and Dmitri alone if she gave them what they wanted… herself. She had to sacrifice herself to save them all.
Charmeine was so thankful the Elder Council did not know about Shane. She thought, ‘God knows what the Elder Council would do to Shane.’ She knew Tabbruis or Shane would gladly martyr themselves to save her. However, she was bound and determined not to let that happen. In frustration, she thought, ‘Damn it to Hell!’
She walked over to the dresser and looked tentatively in the drawer. She couldn’t believe Tabbruis had the room ready for her with clothes just like he did at the hotel. Seeing the underwear and socks, she put them on. Charmeine went to the closet, got pair of jeans and a light pullover. She went back into the bathroom and slipped on her tennis shoes.
Charmeine didn’t know where she was going or even when she would get the opportunity, but she needed to case the grounds to see if there was a way she could escape. She slipped out the master suite door down the elaborate hallway. She came to the outer door of the wing of the castle and slowly pushed the door open.
She slinked through the hallway walking slow and looking around. She saw the stairs she climbed earlier and clung to the wall inching her way down the long stairwell. It came out in the front entry hall.
The staircase was dimly lit and the moon was beating down through the windows on the sides of the entrance.
She knew if she left out that way all the sensors would to start to alarm the men in security.
To her right was a Grand Hall, and remembered passing it earlier. Charmeine thought there might be a door or window that she could eventually make an exit by in it.
Instantly when she walked into the Grand Hall, she noticed it was richly furnished.
The room had all sorts of stately pictures on the walls. She recognized the famous people in history like Mahatma Gandhi, President John F. Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth I, and then on another wall Abraham Lincoln, Mother Theresa and Martin Luther King, Jr.
Her heart warmed to know that there were some people in this world that recognized greatness in any age, sex or religion.
Charmeine went into the Formal Reception Hall. She was bowled over when she saw the rich décor of the Formal Reception Hall.
It was chucked full of antiques and gold-guild paneling which represented something of a Russian influence. She walked quietly as she turned her head up inspecting a painting of Alexander the Great. Then she saw the ceiling and her heart began to flutter.
The ceiling had been painted with a mural of God casting Lucifer out of Heaven. Charmeine began to shiver and shake.
Her stomach turned sour and nauseous. She reached to get to a chair and sit down.
Flashes of light rushed before her eyes…
As in a dream, she could see mist and clouds before her. In dreamy far off voices, Charmeine could hear screaming and commands being given, “Bring down the gate…”
Angels were rushing past her knocking her from side to side. She could hear her own screams, shouting and a baby crying. Charmeine instinctively grabbed her arms as if the baby was in them.
Flashes of fire were raining down all around her. Charmeine could hear her own self yelling, “NO! Do not close the gate! He is not here!”
She saw her put down the child in her arms to run to the Gatekeeper. She saw herself begging him, “Tabbruis! He is not here. NO! PLEASE!”
Then in a flash, the vision fizzled and she was left shuddering and shaking. She put her hands over her face and bent down putting her hands and head on her lap. She rocked herself gently back and forth. Charmeine felt a stabbing pain go through her like a knife. She just sat murmuring, “He’s not here. He’s not here. Oh God, he wasn’t there.” She did not cry Charmeine had no more tears to cry.
Charmeine heard a voice say, “He was not with you then, but he is with you now child.” Over by the window she saw the elusive, Dmitri.
He was extremely tall, dark and stately with a physique like Tabbruis.
Charmeine straightened herself up still trembling. She said, “I don’t know what just happened.”
Dmitri lifted his eyebrows and said with a smile, “Oh my dear, you know.”
He walked over to the Ball Room and quipped with a knowing grin, “Come child, your family awaits you.”
With that, he left and walked out.
Charmeine threw back her hair and slowly got up out of the chair. She went over to the mirror on the wall by the door and she was pale as a ghost. Determined not to great her family in such a state, she straightened her shoulders and pinched her cheeks into color. She took a big breath and went through the Ball Room.
At the end, she saw huge door opening to the sun-drenched porch. As Charmeine approached the light, she smiled as big as she could.
Realization of terror…
When we used to watch the news in the late 60′s and 70′s
there were terrible and horrible happenings of war and civil unrest coming across our black and white TVs…
I used that as I was writing this passage and how out of control I felt back then…
helpless to help those in need…
helpless to stop the oppression…
“Broken Wings” has been one of my favorite songs and I just get misty listening to the lyrics.
Today… take time to hug those care about and be secure in their love!
“Take my sword. We can hold them back.” Shane threw the sword to her while he shocked a Guard coming to attack her.
Sandra took the sword and hollered with no fear, “Affirmative!” She was smiling wide, and her eyes were open with determination. She presented her weapon like a Sword Master and began to slice through the Guards punching and kicking at the same time.
When the Guards attacked Shane, he shocked and bit them making them bleed.
Charmeine, Tabbruis and Shane were fighting to cover Sandra, but…
It was too late!
*****
In all but a second, a wind came through, and Sandra’s headless body fell to the ground of the Acropolis.
“NO!” Shane wailed, and his whole body lit up with glowed white heat.
Charmeine and Tabbruis were looking around for the murderer while they were covering for Shane.
A sinister laugh came across in a gust of wind. The squad saw Sandra’s head dangling by her hair in Pascal’s bloody hand.
“NO! SANDRA!” Shane growled ferociously. His eyes blazed with fire and his body glowed with electric current. He fell down on his hands and knees, like the air had been kicked out of him.
This was the most excruciating pain and anguish Charmeine had ever witnessed. Her heart was bleeding for her son and daughter.
Tabbruis stood beside Shane fighting off as many Guards as he could.
Neal, Thomas, Dmitri, and the Blood-Hunter they freed, came to their aid.
With vengeance in Charmeine’s heart, she shot off after Pascal.
He saw her eyes glowed white with revenge. He dropped Sandra’s head and vanished.
Dmitri collected Sandra’s bloody torso and head while fighting off the Guards.
Charmeine flew after Pascal, and his speed was nothing for her flight. He tried to hide behind one of the many large stones around the Acropolis. She flew to the ground and sneered, “Pascal you will die,” and threw lightening which blew through the rock.
In an instant of superhuman speed, Pascal ran beside Charmeine, and put her hands in a vice grip like he had done on the terrace.
Charmeine couldn’t believe she was in this position again. Her hands were sparking, but she couldn’t throw a shock.
Pascal cupped her chin, and she withered away from him. In his English accent which sickened her, he said, “Charmeine, my sweet little Angel. I do not want to kill you. I want you and I come to an alliance,” as he swept his fingers over her chin.
“Alliance? Never! You are going to pay for your crimes in the Lake of Fire and Torment in Hell.”
“You will yield Charmeine.”
With a big dose of sarcasm she said, “Didn’t you listen when you were told to go to the GAP? You look like Little Jack Horner…”
Pascal tugged at her arms violently.
She winced with pain.
“Ah, you can joke all you want my darling. However, you do not know how great my power is. I can murder every Elder Council member if I chose to. I am the most powerful Blood-Hunter on the Earth. If you and I join, we can rule in peace.”
Illumination came across her face, and she trembled in disgust. “Yes, now I get it… the Prophecy… You want to be the King of Darkness and Night? However, you don’t want peace. You want world domination over all…Blood-Hunters, Light-Bearers and humans. I am nothing but a stepping stone in your lust for power.”
“It is only fitting Charmeine. I am the most powerful Elder, and you are the most powerful Light-Bearer. If we become…” and he raked his eyes over her, “intimate, then we can marry and rule together. We would be invincible. Even GOD could not have dominion over us.” He reached his hand over chin, down her neck, to the top of her chest and growled in desire.
She was stunned. To even suggest this was sacrilegious and blasphemous to God. She was also revolted. Then she felt his vile hands wonder on her body. She knew he was ready to attack her. With as much calmness as she could muster, she said, “You are truly insane. God is all-powerful and even thinking about it is wicked. You are truly an agent of Lucifer. Now, I am sure of my mission on Earth… you must die!”
Pascal growled in anger and tightened his grip which made waves of pain in her hands and arms.
“You smarmy worm, I have my King.No one or no ‘THING’ will ever take his place.” With pride and dignity she said, “I am Mrs. Tabbruis Hunter. He is the true ‘King of Darkness and Night’. We are joined on Earth as we were in Heaven.”
Just then Pascal could sense her heart was not beating right. He sensed her relationship was in trouble because her heart skipped a beat whenever she mentioned her husband. “Oh tsk, tsk Charmeine, what is the matter? Are you having trouble with the hubby? Has he failed you? Now with me, you will be totally satisfied.” He put his long slender nose to her neck and smelled her scent. He rubbed his body up against her.
She became nauseous and the bile rode up to the top of her neck. She realized that he intended to rape her right then, and she became terrified at the thought.
“I have wanted you ever since the first minute I touched you. I have dreamed of your body and how you will enjoy me.” His eyes became black with lust.
With all the bravado she could muster, she yelled, “Never will you lay one finger on me, you filthy pig!”
“Marry me or you will be preparing your precious Tabbruis’ death shroud. He will not live long, if you refuse me,” and ground his thighs against her.
“Pascal, I will see your dead body on the ground before anything happens to Tabbruis. I promise you, this is the last time you will ever lay a finger on me.” With that, she bent down, swiped his legs, and he fell like a slimy fish on the ground. She stood away from him as her hands threw electric currents to his body. “Ha! Those eight buck Judo lessons paid off.”
Just then, Charmeine heard the squad yelling while battling the Guards, and for a second, she became worried.
This distraction was all Pascal needed to run.
She flew in the air after him, but he disappeared. She hovered over the Acropolis looking for him.
“My Queen! Look out!” Neal shouted.
With that, she felt it… a red hot pain sliced through her, but she did not know what it was. The hotness went from her heart through her shoulder. She looked down and swiped her fingers where it hurt. She saw her hand was saturated in blood and smelled the familiar metallic aroma. She realized an arrow had gone through her body with the end sticking out in front. Still flying and throwing lightning, she could only do use her right hand. Like in slow motion, she started to lose power and plummeted to the Earth.
She saw Pascal smiling and laughing waiting for her to fall with a crossbow in his hands.
Like a hunter would wait for the duck or quail to hit the ground, he mouthed the words, “His death shroud. Tabbruis will die.”
Tabbruis watched his love and life walk over the dune toward the tunnels and parking lot. He could not do anything and was powerless against her immovable electric current. “Charmeine! Release me now! Charmeine!” He looked at her golden hair lit by the sun while the wind gently blew through it. Her curvaceous body was reciting a siren’s call to him. He was excited just by her presence.
Almost to the tunnel, she turned and threw her voice. While a 100 feet away, she whispered, “Oh yes, I have another power now. I know you can hear me. I found the limo.”
He watched as she threw a flourish with her finger, and he was released.
Instantly, he was in front of her. “Do not walk away from me! Do not walk away from me ever!”
“Tabbruis, I want my life back. I’m returning to Long Island to teach. I just want to be Charleen again. This life… our life, will never work. If I am truly the Queen of Light, I should have been able to defend myself in the Jones Beach parking lot. I should have never relied on you to take care of me. Before I met you, I never relied on anyone and was fine. It is the truth I didn’t fit in this human world. However, I’m not cut out for your world either. If I was truly your soul mate, you would have stood by me. I don’t know what I was thinking by marrying you. As far as the ring on your finger, its properties are not precious metals to me, but cheap pennyweights.”
What Charmeine said cut Tabbruis to his core. He was shocked. His heart was encased almost totally now. He could not feel it even pump. However, he had to get through to her. She could not leave him. “Charmeine, my love,” and took her hand.
They both saw… her hand did not spark!
She looked at him through tired hooded eyes. “I don’t spark for you anymore Tabbruis. My heart is dead, like my love is dead.”
“Charmeine, do you not understand you cannot leave me? Part of your heart lives in me, and part of my heart lives in you. We are joined. We are not whole when we are separated; therefore, we cannot live apart.”
She gently took his face in her hands and looked into his eyes. “Tabbruis, I will admit to being in love with you so deeply I do not know where I end and you begin. However, I think of you as my rock, my cool shade tree on a hot summer’s day, and my ocean which is always dependable with the waves coming in and out of shore. Inside in my heart, I am hurt because I know you do not trust or believe in me, and most of all, you lied to me.”
She ran her fingertips with a feather light touch over his lips when he tried to talk. “You see Tabbruis, I depend on you to be my rock, I depend on you to be my shade tree, and I depend on you to be my ocean. When you do not believe in me or lie, my rock falls into pebbles, my tree withers and my ocean dries up.”
She was exhausted and hungry and her eyelids became heavy for want of sleep. “We should get to the airport for the battle. I flew here two days ago and not slept or eaten.” She wearily walked through the tunnel to the parking lot. She turned around and looked at him. The air was blowing through his chestnut brown hair with highlights of blonde and auburn all around it. His eyes seemed like pools of green liquid emeralds. He was standing with both of his feet out and his arms folded over his chest like a shield. ‘Even now, he is nothing but a work of art in the flesh.’ Her body wanted to run to him and get lost in his arms. However, she turned around and kept walking toward the limo while tears were streaming down her face.
Tabbruis was traumatized. She was his wife in Heaven and on Earth. They belonged together. He loved her and burned with a fire in his belly to be with her. He thought, ‘Why had Charmeine not trusted my judgments? I am the person with the military experience.’ However, he was livid because she was going to leave him.
He would be lost without her. His life revolved around this very beautiful and complex creature. His light, breath, laughter, and love were inside her. She was the only woman he had ever let his defenses down with on Earth. He needed her more than she would ever know. When she left the castle, it was a wonder he had not lost his mind. He got into the limo after her.
Excerpt from Chapter 6, The Zelbock
“Queen Sentiz’s zelbocks are surely out in the forest, searching for anyone suspicious who may have…” Looper flew very close to Kristina’s ear and in a low whisper said, “The Magic Warble.”
Kristina reached into her pocket for the Magic Warble, but Looper suddenly stopped abruptly in midair and glanced from side to side nervously. Then he flew to a nearby tree and landed on one of its branches. He looked all about the forest.
Kristina wondered what he was doing and was about to ask Clover, but then he turned around and whispered, “Quick! Take cover!”
As quick as a flash of light, Clover flew off to a nearby tree stump. Then Kristina looked around to see where she could hide.
“Over here!” Clover called out to her. Clover was sitting with her knees curled up, inside a knothole of a stump. Kristina ran, jumped over the stump, and hid behind it.
“Hey! Watch out!” Clover snapped.
Kristina was about to respond, but then she heard something coming toward them. She poked her head over the stump and saw a horrible creature, slightly taller than a dwarf but very ugly. Its face was covered in warts. It had a crooked, turned-up nose, and its back was hunched over. It stood very near Kristina and Clover, with a suspicious, evil look on its face, sniffing the air like a dog.
Kristina dared not make a move in case it might see her.
She glanced up at the tree where Looper was standing, straight as a pin, against its trunk, not moving a muscle. The horrible creature couldn’t see anything, so it started to leave. But then a branch Kristina was sitting on suddenly snapped. She gasped, and the creature turned around to face her. It stared directly into her eyes and grinned from ear to ear. Drool dripped out of the corner of its mouth, and it rubbed its large, gnarled hands together.
Kristina glanced back at Looper, who was now motioning for her to run to the tree he was in. She looked over at Clover.
“Hurry! Run to the tree and climb it!” Clover said frantically.
The creature started toward Kristina, so she ran as fast as she could toward the tree.
“Quick, Kristina, jump and pull yourself up,” Looper said.
The branch was much higher than the top of her head, but she gave it her best shot. She jumped once but failed to reach it. The creature was right behind her.
“Don’t give up, Kristina! You must reach it,” Looper said fearfully.
She jumped again, and this time caught hold of the branch. Then she swung her legs upward, just as the creature lunged up underneath her, scratching her back with its long, grimy fingernails. She got her legs around the branch, and then pulled herself up to sit on it.
“Give me the Magic Warble,” the creature hissed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have listed Victoria’s sights below for entrees to either like or join to enter to win.
The family was gathered in Dmitri’s rather large study/library where he arranged for the evening meal and strategy session to attack the Elder Council. Casual conversation was taking place as they rested on the overstuffed leather couches.
Books lined two of the walls; some looked rather ancient Charmeine thought. Her eyes followed up to the ceiling where a mural of the Trojan War was depicted. She looked at the Blood-Hunters, Tabbruis, Dmitri, Neal and Thomas thinking they probably would have been there. She looked up again and swallowed hard with new the realization. For contrast, she noticed one wall populated with big flat screen TV’s lined up on either side of a huge projection screen and dry/erase board. The other side had old portraits, some people she recognized. All were painted masterfully. They framed a wide open door to a terrace. Opulence and extravagant were the only words to describe everything about the castle.
The study door opened and Oksana appeared with a cart and an older gentleman on staff followed her.
The aroma instantly drew Charmeine. “Pizza? I love pizza!” She jumped up off the couch with a wide smile.
Oksana, and the gentleman did not know English, but they smiled because she was so happy.
The squad chuckled at the fuss she made over having her favorite food.
“Yep, Char loves pizza. At Joe’s, on Union Avenue in Holbrook, I’ve seen Char put down a large pizza by herself.” Shane winked at her with a smile.
“Girl Power,” Sandra replied as she bumped knuckles with Charmeine.
Everyone began to laugh and dinner for all was served.
Later, after the squad enjoyed their respective dinners, she noticed there was a positive mood in the room.
“Let us move to the conference table and get to work,” Dmitri said. Once they were seated, he politely acknowledged everyone at the table. “My Queen, please do not think we are leaving you out of the planning, but several of us here have military training. Will you indulge us while we plot the attack?”
“Not at all Dmitri, I just want to be in on the fight.”
“Oh, you will be, my Queen.”
She saw Tabbruis tense up and whispered, “You are my Champion, remember? We will be fighting together.”
“Always,” he whispered with a strained smile.
Dmitri asked, “Let us go around the table assessing strengths and weaknesses, shall we?”
“Like a SWOT Analysis?” Sandra inquired.
“Oh my… very good, Sandra, that is correct.”
Sandra started the Smartboard and screen. She drew four squares labeling them S-W-O-T.
They evaluated every aspect of the squad’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
“My Queen, do you know what your capabilities are?” Dmitri asked. “At practice the other night, each of us demonstrated and evaluated our proficiency. Tabbruis was not there, but I have fought with him in many battles, wars and armies. I believe he has the same abilities as I do.”
“Yes, not to sound boastful,” Tabbruis interjected. “I am an expert in hand to hand combat, sword fighting and a pretty fair marksman.”
“Dmitri, I know Judo,” Charmeine replied. “However, my supernatural powers have increased since they appeared at Jones Beach in Long Island.” She reflected with a sad look on her face and tone, “That seems like ages ago.”
“You’ve got that right Char.” Shane exhaled and nodded his head.
“Yes my Queen. The question is can you manifest the supernatural powers at your will?”
She looked pensive. “Dmitri, may I use the terrace?”
“Certainly my Queen, come with me.”
A few minutes later the squad was gathered the terrace.
Charmeine tensed up.
Tabbruis was by her side.
She whispered, “I don’t know if I can do this.”
He wisely put his hand on her shoulder, looked deep into her eyes and whispered, “All you have to do is think about our family, and the very deadly threat of it being taken away. Use the strength which is deep down inside your soul. I know you will do anything to protect your family.”
“Please stay beside me Tabbruis; I need your strength and determination to do this.” She began to think about protecting her family and the innocent humans of the world. She felt the adrenaline running through her veins and concentrated on the threat from the Elder Council, especially…Pascal. Just then, her fingers began to spark and a white light illuminated the terrace. The wind began to blow and cracks of thunder roared through the sky. Her hair was flying from the gushes of wind. She put her hands out and shot a bolt of lightning across the terrace, and it decimated a statue on the walking path about 300 feet away. As she closed her eyes, huge balls of hail began to rain down on the pasture next to the castle. With a push off the ground, she slowly started to fly. At first, she hovered. Suddenly, as fast as a shooting star, she flew down to the Formal Garden. Soaring around a tree heading for the terrace, she shrieked, “I’m flying!” She took off circling each of the lawn statues.
Shane shouted, “All right Mom!” and started clapping.
“Way to go girlfriend!” Sandra exclaimed as she jumped up and down.
The family began to clap and cheer as she flew all around the castle grounds.
Tabbruis smiled in amazement and awe. He knew her gifts were from God. Now that she could fly at super speed, he felt comfort she had another formidable weapon to use in her defense.
When she decided to come back down to the Earth, she flew to the terrace and jumped down next to him. She was panting and overjoyed.
“You are amazing Charmeine! You did it!” Tabbruis exclaimed and clapped.
She threw her arms around him and gave him a big kiss.
Everyone was still cheering and clapping.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.”
When Tabbruis was done putting on his pajamas, he looked over his shoulder. She was asleep lying back on the bed still half-dressed. He furrowed his brow in concern but thought, ‘She has been through so much. Her body is trying to catch up and needs rest.’
He prepared her ready for bed and left her yellow camisole on. He put a sheet over her so she could sleep comfortably. He marveled at her beauty. Her brown skin radiated heat and golden hair lit up in the fast rising sun.
There was a quiet knock at the door. He put on his robe and opened the door. It was Thomas with a cart of food. He saw she was sleeping and whispered, “I can come back later.”
“No need for that Thomas, I’m starved,” she muttered lying on her pillow and did not move.
“Thank you Thomas, please get some rest now also,” Tabbruis added.
He nodded and turned to leave. “Yes, this is my last stop. Rest well with the Angels,” and closed the door.
“Angels? He’s got to be kidding,” she mumbled.
“Thomas means well, Charmeine. I am glad you are awake enough to eat.” He brought a tray to her, fixed a Coke and gave it to her. Then he poured his sanguine supper in a crystal glass.
She dove right in eating the sandwich and drank the Coke down in one gulp. “Wow, I can’t believe I am this hungry Tabbruis.”
“I am glad you were awake to eat. You need your strength Charmeine.”
She poured some more Coke into her glass and offered her glass for a toast.
They touched their glasses and toasted, “Cheers.” As they sat up in bed, the two talked about things going on at the castle and their life in Romania. For a while, they enjoyed the quiet time together like any married couple would. Life requested a lot from them, and it was nice to have leisurely moments alone.
She yawned, put the tray on the night table, and kissed him sweetly. “In all this craziness, I know at the end of the day, I can lay my head on your chest, hear your heartbeat, and everything will be okay.” She threw off the sheet and busily cleaned up the dishes putting them on the cart. “I have to brush my teeth. Meet you back here?”
He winked at her with a nod and smoldering smile.
“Oh…then I’ll be right back,” she winked back.
A few minutes later, he heard odd sounds coming from the bathroom. Quickly, he went in and found her kneeling in front of her toilet.
“What is it? Are you okay Charmeine?”
“I’m fine. This is no fair, I didn’t even drink. You should at least have had some Tequila to be this sick,” she answered with a strained smile.
He ran a washcloth under cold water, ringed it out and put it on her head. He reached out with his senses to check her heart rate, and it was okay, but he was still concerned.
“I’m fine now Tabbruis, no worries.”
He helped her stand up.
She went to the sink and rinsed out her mouth and noticed he was watching her intently. A little self-conscious, “I really do need to brush my teeth now alone. I’m okay. I just had a little indigestion. Please, close the door on your way out.”
“Can I get something to settle your stomach?”
“No need, it is over. I don’t feel the least bit queasy anymore, but I do want to brush my teeth… uh… without an audience.”
“I will be waiting.” He walked to the door with a strange look on his face.
When he closed the door, Charmeine sarcastically said to herself as she loaded her brush up with toothpaste, “Just what I need a stomach bug on top of saving the world.”
Exhausted and sweating, she came out of the bathroom, and the sun was up. She peeled off all of her clothes and got into bed.
Tabbruis noticed she was wilting from the heat and thought maybe it was making her sick. He got up, opened the patio doors, and a cool breeze wafted over the bedroom. Then, he closed the heavy curtains which darkened the room, leaving them open enough to let the cool breeze in.
He took off his all of his clothes too and lay next to her. With a contented sigh, he patted his chest beckoning her to come to him.
She laid her tired head on his chest and heard his heartbeat. “I love you so…”
Tabbruis interrupted, “That you came to Hell to rescue me?” He sighed, “I can never even begin to say thank you my love.”
She whispered, “Semper tua ero.”
“My sweet Charmeine, semper tuus ero; I am forever yours.”
Their naked flesh was connecting and folding together. It seemed ever since their wedding night, Tabbruis and Charmeine’s bodies were somehow now one. Their flesh intermingled as a single entity.
She sniffed the rose scent on her arm. “I love this rose lotion, but you spoil me too much.”
“My love, I have gone centuries with no one to be with. Let me love you. Let me take care of you. And yes, let me spoil you. I want you to be…” She was asleep. Tabbruis kissed Charmeine on the forehead, breathed in the rose scent and fell asleep enfolding her tightly in his strong arms.
All of a sudden, the Angel Charmeine and baby Shane were being pulled out of the Lake of Fire and Torment.
When she opened her eyes, Tabbruis stood above her. His body was scalded and burnt to a crisp. Flesh hung off his skeleton. His once beautiful, strong and powerful form was reduced to bone, roasted skin and black crust. She recognized him only by his eyes, and wailed in sorrow for the pain he was in.
No matter how Tabbruis looked, Charmeine embraced and kissed him. His dry parched flesh and bones became smooth with her kiss and touch. Her love was curing him, as he began to heal. “Thank God we found you Tabbruis.” She felt his flesh knitting, cooling with her arms around him. He held her and Shane close to his body. Soon, he became perfect, as he was in Heaven. Instantly, he was filled with love and peace.
She wondered how badly her legs were burnt. However, when Charmeine looked down, she was not hurt even though the lower half of her body felt like it was cooked in the fire.
Tabbruis took Shane in his arms and kissed him. “Son, I missed you so.” He smiled wide at his father showing his new tooth.
Charmeine was thrilled to have her family back and beamed with happiness.
Miraculously, for a moment in Hell, the love and bond between Tabbruis, Charmeine and Shane was so strong it lit everything in white light… She heard the voice from Heaven say, “Accendo Charmeine…”
*****
After a moment, everything turned black and gloomy again in Hell. Tabbruis’ face became anxious with worry. “Charmeine, we have to get out of Hell. There is no time. The portal to Earth is closing.”
“But Tabbruis, we have to get back to Heaven.”
“Charmeine, we will never be allowed to go across the Gate of Heaven. It has been sealed. The portal to Earth is our only way out of Hell. Listen to me, Charmeine. It is important you heed what I say. The portal may separate us on Earth by space and time but whatever happens, know I will find you. God will help me find you. We are part of each other. We cannot be apart and God knows that. Do not be afraid.”
Tabbruis secured Shane in his arms, and he reached for her hand. They ran to Earth’s portal. Wind was whipping around like a tornado, and she was having a hard time keeping upright. It was hard to see because the black smoke burned her eyes.
Fallen Angels were running to the portal pushing and shoving them out of the way. It was very loud from the wind created by the portal and the screams from fallen Angels.
All of a sudden, a man grabbed Charmeine. He was using her power to heal and mend his burnt flesh from the Lake of Fire and Torment. However, his hands were restraining her while running them all along her body.
Tabbruis looked behind him and yelled, “No! Leave her alone!” He leapt to defend his wife and quickly tore her away from the man’s grasp.
“Are you okay Charmeine?”
“Yes, I think so Tabbruis.” She was nauseated from the man’s touch.
He handed Shane to her.
His anger was boiling and turned to attack the man.
The man raised a finger to Tabbruis. “Temper… temper. Tsk, tsk.”
He smiled like the Devil at Charmeine while she withered away from his repugnant implication. In a sing-song voice of lurid sexuality, he whispered, “My name is Pascal, and I look forward to seeing you again…Charmeine.”
When Pascal said her name, she shuddered with revulsion.
“Never!” Tabbruis roared with fury and lunged for him.
Pascal ran into the portal.
With vengeance, Tabbruis pursued Pascal.
All of a sudden, they were lost in the portal.
Charmeine’s eyes became wide with fear. “Tabbruis, come back! Oh God, help me! Shane and I need you!” She trembled in shock and trepidation. Because the wind was violent and unrelenting, she tried to keep her balance. Fallen angels were pushing and knocking her around. It was all she could do to protect Shane from the blows she received.
Struggling with the gusts, she felt Shane being ripped out of her arms into the portal. Instinctively, she grasped for him. She had her fingers on him trying to get a better grip, but could not get a good hold. She cried out, “My Son, help me Lord God!”
Terror, shock and horror overtook Charmeine as Shane was sucked out of her grasp.
Still in her dream and looking down, she awoke on the beach in Patchogue, Long Island, New York traumatized, confused and dazed.
She did not have Tabbruis or Shane, but did not know about them either.
The only thing she knew was the first part of her name, ‘C-h-a-r’ and nothing else.
Everything, all her past had been erased.
She was dazed and frightened as she aimlessly walked through the streets of Holbrook utterly and horribly alone.
In a misty white cloud, Charmeine was floating. Her heart was happy and peaceful. She was looking down on what seemed to be like a dreamy movie of Tabbruis, herself, and their baby, Shane.
She realized it was a dream of Heaven again.
Tabbruis was playing with Shane lifting him up in the air and then resting him on his chest.
Shane squealed with laughter.
The ‘Angel Charmeine’ was busy fixing her hair.
All of them were clad in long, white robes. However, Tabbruis looked stunning in a breastplate of gold armor and a sword at his side.
Her heart warmed as she saw Tabbruis and Shane because her family meant the world to her.
*****
Later, Charmeine and Tabbruis were walking down a street. He had Shane in his arms and rocked him while making cooing noises. Eventually, they arrived at a big market square where everyone was murmuring and milling around.
Suddenly, the sky broke open and a perfect white light settled over the gathering. A voice came from the front of the square.
An Archangel clad in magnificent gold armor stood on a platform in front of the crowd. He proclaimed, “I, Archangel Gabriel, will read the Prophecy.
All true Angels of God will rejoice.”
He took out a scroll from his sheath, “There are many Angels who are rebellious and doubt the word of God.”
Everyone started to murmur as the Archangel Gabriel began to read from a scroll:
Listen, oh Angels of Heaven:
Those who are disobedient will be cast from Heaven into the Lake of Fire and Torment.
Their place will become devoid of God and God’s mercy!
The Earth will be abused by those from Hell while they walk the Earth.
To show how omnipotent and loving God is, God will send his only begotten Son, a Lamb, to be slaughtered for all in Heaven and in Hell.
The Lamb’s followers shall be only of the Meek, the Honest, and the Self-Sacrificing.
The Lamb will send his weakest Angel to bring peace to a troubled world before the Apocalypse.
They will call her, The Queen of Light and her Champion will be the King of Darkness.
They will bring order and continue the fight against those defiant and seditious of God’s word and battle to rid the Earth of Lucifer’s minions.
Their family will rule with justice, harmony and determination of spirit.
Suddenly, Charmeine’s movie became fuzzy and with no sound.
She was now looking over a scene of Angels running around the ‘Angel Charmeine’ with fear and panic. Not hearing anything, Charmeine floated over the scene. Fire was raining down on Heaven while she carried Shane. Some of the buildings of Heaven were burning. She ran up and down the great Gate of Heaven which was in a lattice pattern with spikes at the bottom.
Out of desperation, the ‘Angel Charmeine’ put Shane down and ran to the Gatekeeper pleading. She was fearful for Shane as he was crying and frightened. She was begging The Gatekeeper for something, but he was shaking his head no. The Gatekeeper was rolling down the Gate of Heaven. As it was lowering, in sheer desperation, the ‘Angel Charmeine’ threw herself under it.
In a sudden burst of agony, Charmeine felt it.
She experienced a shock of intense pain and the loud noises rang in her ears. Opening her eyes, she had become the ‘Angel Charmeine’ now. Extreme pain and red-hot fire ran through her body. The Gate of Heaven had ripped her almost in half.
Tabbruis was gripping her hand while pulled down into Hell.
Even though Charmeine was in great pain and misery, she held his hand tightly. She said in desperation, “Hold on Tabbruis. Do not let go!”
Nevertheless, she saw black hands trying to pull him down into the darkness.
Her body was in intense torment, but she willed herself to keep holding his hand.
“Semper tuus ero, Charmeine!”
“Semper tua ero, Tabbruis!” She pleaded, “Oh God, he is not here. Open the Gate of Heaven for him. I need my husband. Our son needs his father.”
He let go of her hand and was finally dragged into Hell.
“Tabbruis! God, help him. Bring him back to us. Shane and I need him.”
As she ran her hand down the spike which impaled her, she started to feel the life go out of her body.
She reached for Shane who was by her leg crying out, ‘Ma, Ma, Ma!’ She felt his arm while he desperately grabbed her hand.
Totally helpless to protect her family, she wailed in final scream of agony and closed her eyes.
Admittedly, I’m the author of “The Light-Bearer Series” so if I didn’t like my own books, I would be a pretty bad Author! There are points in the books which evoke tons of feelings in me. However, what are my top ten of my heart?
1. First, I do other creative things and have always been that way. I love music! I play violin, sing and have acted in musicals! My last role was a year or so ago Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. I loved it. I always have music playing in the background while I write… now if you looked at my playlists you would say, “What? Emily you are weird!” I love classical, 80’s, punk rock, dance (club music), and easy listening love songs. OH I love some 50’s big band music too! I know, weird!
2. Who am I a fan of? Well, my favorite books are from English and American Lit! Of course my first books were like anyone else’s like The Box Car Children, Little Women, The Hobbit, you know. But when I would go to Public Library after school, I would sneak over and to the section where the big books were and pull down Dracula by Bram Stoker and read it covertly.
3. My favorite animal? No, I won’t say because if I did I would forsake an animal! I’m a cat, dog, rabbit, horse, fish, and bird person! Chickens make me laugh because they are so skittish and little tiny chipmunks make me smile because they are so darn cute!
4. My favorite dream? Where would we all be without dreams? I think my favorite dreams are about my characters Charmeine and Tabbruis! I dream of them walking down the coast of Long Island or the Black Sea and going places and doing things that a jet set couple would do. However, Charmeine would protest because she hates being spoiled! She’s married to the hunkiest, green eyed, built, thoughtful, most gorgeous man on Earth, Tabbruis… take it Charmeine… take it! RUN!
5: What do I fantasize about? Being on a white sandy beach looking out a crystal blue ocean with the waves coming in and out! Of course reading my Kindle a juicy vampire romance or some cute funny story and sunbathing! Can you tell I love the beach? Of course, I fantasize looking at Tabbruis while I do it…woot!
6: I love the fact that I can always make a joke out of almost anything. I look at this philosophy. There is a lot of yuck in this world but I like to concentrate on lighting the mood a little. That doesn’t mean I don’t complain you can ask my husband about that…grrr! But, Charmeine my character and I are somewhat the same in that belief. Gotta give everyone the benefit of the doubt, I believe! So, I tend to let the news and especially the bad news just roll off my shoulders. I know that I will worry. I’m like Charmeine, “Who needs that?”
7: I love all things food! Okay Charmeine and I are a lot like that too. We love food! It’s a great thing to sit down at dinner with the family or friends and dig into your favorite meal laughing and talking! It is joy! What is my favorite food? That would be easy, steak, baked potato, veggies, salad and a nice wine or even a tall glass of Sam Adams! Charmeine is doesn’t have favorites. Although, how could she eat so much and still be a size two? I do not know, maybe it’s because she immortal? Hum? I need that “immortal” shot because I am not a size two!
8: What is my favorite pastime? I love to waste time! No kidding, I just like milling around with no direction. But if you were to ask where, I would say the Beach immediately, but what? Just reading, writing, eating and generally just walking around enjoying myself!
9: What are my favorite places to shop? Nowhere, grocery to clothes! I really hate… no loathe shopping! However, that doesn’t mean I don’t shop! NO! I much prefer shopping on line. It also doesn’t mean I don’t spend money, I spend it, believe me! The only enticement shopping has for me is when a girlfriend asks me to go and there will be lunch or dinner involved… then okay! But I don’t enjoy it!
10: What are my favorite things of all time? YOU, spending time with you in laughter and jokes, tears and pain, love, enjoying quiet time by myself, going to the beach, being by myself with my Kindle, daydreaming, romance, and to top it off with a cherry, sharing and Paying it Forward with everyone!
Those are the “Emily” all-time favorite things!
I hope you enjoy life and live with happiness, love and romance always!
Charmeine came through the bathroom door looking like she had be kicked in the stomach.
“Sick again?” Tabbruis asked.
“They call it morning sickness, but it sure comes and goes anytime,” she replied wiping her forehead with a washcloth.
“Can I get you some crackers or ginger ale?” He got up out of bed.
“Nope, I think I’m fine. The morning sickness has gotten better like Laura said it would, but it’s not… uh, totally gone yet,” she sighed.
He got back into bed and pulled the covers down for her.
She walked to the patio doors and looked out over the Black Sea through the frost on the window panes. Standing so near the glass, her breath made the window fog up.
He watched her with love in his eyes and thought, ‘She is so beautiful. Her hand is always on her belly rubbing the baby and cradling it like our child was already in her arms.’
“I’m so glad to finally be home Tabbruis,” she said with a tired sigh. “The weddings were picture perfect, but nothing makes me happier than being back home at the castle again.”
“I am pleased you love living here as much as I do, Charmeine.”
“Why wouldn’t I love it, Tabbruis?” she asked with a yawn. “You spoil me too much.”
“I do not spoil you, Charmeine. I just want you to be as happy as I am.”
Sitting on the edge of the bed still rubbing her belly with a far-off look she sighed with contentment. “I have to admit Castle Charmeine is impeccable. It is wonderful for our family and perfect with all the room we need for our family to grow.”
“What do you mean?” His eyebrows were raised as he was taken aback by her statement.
Not listening, she absentmindedly stared into space while rubbing Baby Hunter nestled in her womb. “Wouldn’t it be great to see our grandchildren running around the castle one day?”
“I see…” he laughed, “You already are expecting grandchildren from Shane and Sandra?”
“Well, yeah.” She wondered why he was laughing and looked away smiling. “I don’t know, maybe from Shane and Sandra, Thomas and Laura, Neal and Hameal can adopt or even from our little Baby Hunter here.” She rubbed the baby through her silk nightgown.
Tabbruis burst out with another round of laughter. “Wait, wait… you want…?” He could see she was in her own little fantasy world. He did not want to spoil her moment of quiet revelry. “Well my love, I shall ask Hameal to start on additions to castle immediately, just for our grandchildren.” He rubbed his eyes with a yawn. “But can we at least wait and see our little Baby Hunter born, before we ask him or her for grandchildren?”
She didn’t hear him. She was smiling so lost in the thought of her grandchildren running from room to room.
Seditious Foreword
I met Emily and fell instantly in love. Much like her characters, she is passionate, romantic and cares very deeply for her family and friends. It is through this prism that she lives her life; believing in the very best of the human spirit. At her core lies an undying spirit and conviction in her that is not often seen. It was because of this soulfulness that I made her my bride.
She was inspired to write “The Light-Bearer Series” from a simple idea. Could love truly conquer all? The trials and tribulations Charmeine & Tabbruis face are not very much unlike our own. Although fantastical in nature, their problems are like any marriage. It is through undying love and respect that couples resolve issues in their relationships.
What makes “The Light-Bearer Series” so appealing is the humanness of her unhuman characters. They have the souls, the wickedness and the passions we all have. They are grounded in a human spirit which is undying, nurturing and caring in a way that projects our best selves. We find ourselves wishing we could be as strong and compassionate as her characters.
Emily, my wife, you are an inspiration to us all. We love you.
Tears were rolling down Charmeine’s face. She said in his ear, “Hold on to me Tabbruis; don’t leave me now. I’ve been searching for you my whole life. Semper…tua…ero.”
Finally, Charmeine felt a puncture in her neck and gasped at the pain but was very relieved. Something strange happened when he began to pull on her blood. She felt a rush of warmth run through her body. When he pulled again on her blood, a shock of pleasure ran up and down her body. She laid back on the bed too weak to hold up his weight up anymore.
Going on Tabbruis’ basic instincts, he rested across the top of her with his mouth buried in her neck. He pulled on her sublime and sweet blood again. When he drank, an electric, sexual heat filled all his senses.
Charmeine did not know what was going on. She had never felt like this before. She pressed him against her body and whispered, “Hold me Tabbruis. Hold me closer.”
With a low growl, he began to wrap his arms around her tightly.
She moaned with pleasure.
He was not only reveling in her sweet and divine blood rushing over his tongue, but he was on fire with desire. His body had never experienced the feelings of pure want and sexual need which flowed through him. Never had he wanted anyone, but he craved her body and soul. He did not want to let go until they were both satisfied with the need they both were feeling.
Suddenly, Tabbruis’ senses came back to him. He turned his head from her neck ashamed of what he had done. His desire was too great to be this close to her. He would rather die than harm her.
Charmeine took his chin in her hands and slowly turned his head. His eyes were green in middle but the iris was circled with black desire. Looking into his eyes, she brought his head to her neck and said, “Believe.”
He backed away, “I cannot. I do not want to hurt you.”
“You won’t Tabbruis. I know you won’t.” Charmeine lowered herself on the bed and breathlessly whispered in his ear, “Believe.” She kissed Tabbruis’ mouth. His fangs were exposed, and she felt the fangs with her tongue.
Tabbruis was trying to control his needs but could not help growling as she did this. The sensuous and tantalizing feel of her tongue on his fangs pushed him over the edge. He could not hold back any longer, he bent down and began to pull blood from her neck again. He held her even closer now.
Suddenly, Charmeine pulsated with white light.
The warmth and tingle of the white light made Tabbruis run his hands through her hair and up and down her arms.
She held him close as she burned with passion, “Tabbruis.”
With one last pull of her blood which made her shiver, he licked her neck healing it instantly, “Charmeine.”
He laid next to her.
Looking into her eyes, he whispered, “Semper tuus ero, Charmeine.”
“Semper tua ero, Tabbruis.”
(I am forever yours)
ANSWER this question:
Count Dracula, the most famous vampire in history, was created by novelist Bram Stoker, in 1897. This vile creature was named after a historical figure, who, though not an actual vampire, was surely as bloodthirsty as his fictional counterpart.
We all know Tabbruis is a GORGEOUS hunk of Blood-Hunter/Vampire. However, Emily has changed the vampire lore making them all Angels before Lucifer was cast out of Heaven. Several other ‘typical’ characteristics of being a Vampire are not present in her version. For instance, Tabbruis’ passion is only stirred by Charmeine, he can go in the sun, doesn’t sleep in a coffin, he’s also religious and can eat food and drink.
Book Trailer for Charmeine – Mactus – Accendo in The Light Bearer Series
Charmeine wrapped her arms around him and kissed him on the neck which electrified him. As she slowly slid down over his chest, he kissed her softly and sweetly on her lips.
She pulled away, “Wow, I’m sorry, I forgot. Are you okay? I don’t want you to be tempted. I just want to be near you.”
He smiled, shook his head, swept Charmeine off her feet and took her over to the couch. He sat her down on his lap. He could feel her warm body close to his. He said in a soft voice with his lips hovering over hers, “Charmeine, I promise I will never hurt you.”
She nuzzled his neck as she kissed it. “Famous…last…words…”
Gently he kissed Charmeine. He felt her soft lips caressing his. All of a sudden it registered what she said, and he bantered, “Very funny, I think I am offended.”
“You talk too much,” and kissed him again. She heard him softly growl and pulled away. Tabbruis’ eyes were closed and when he opened them, she saw they were black with pin-points of green.
“You should eat, we have a big day.”
She got up to make herself a plate of fruit, egg and toast with a cup of coffee. She sat down next to him and began to eat while they talked.
As she was sipping her coffee, she got a serious look on her face. “Well we have a big problem to think about.”
He was rubbing her back and thinking of kissing her again, but dragged himself into the conversation. “Oh, the Blood-Hunter…”
“Bigger,” she said.
“Yes, the fact that you are a Light-Bearer Charmeine, and I am a Blood-Hunter does cause some problems…”
“Even bigger.”
“Charmeine, what could be bigger than that?” he asked with wide questioning eyes.
“Shane! He’s always been protective. I wonder why he let me stay here, with you?” Then she got a glimmer of what went on between them, “Oh, I get it. You convinced him somehow… with hypnotism?”
He shook his head and grinned. “Somehow…I convinced him.”
“Well, it obviously worked.” A troubling look washed across her face.
Tabbruis noticed the sad look in her eyes.
“I’m worried what he will think about us,” she said softly.
“I just talked to Shane while you were in with the clerk.”
Charmeine looked scared, put down her coffee and asked, “Really? What did you say? What did he say? Was he mad? How did he react? Oh, just tell me everything.”
“I told him how I feel about you, and Shane was okay with our relationship.”
Her eyebrows went up with a look trying to figure out what he said to Shane. “What do you feel Tabbruis?”
He swallowed very hard, ran his fingers through her long golden hair and in a soft voice replied, “Happiness Charmeine. I am content and happy for the first time in my life.”
“I feel the same Tabbruis… happiness.” With that, she melted into him.
They embraced each other.
“Shane could see we were attracted to each other last night and sort of figured we would be together now Charmeine.” He closed his eyes, drunk in her warmth and held her tightly.
“He was okay with us?”
“Yes, Shane even made me share a toast of Glenfiddich Scotch to you and me.”
“He has definitely accepted you as my boyfriend.”
“Boyfriend? I am not… I mean…”
“Well what else should I call you…my Blood-Hunter buddy, O-positive pal, or maybe my Super-human chum? Huh?”
He burst out laughing and answered, “Okay, I suppose it is alright being called ‘Boyfriend.’ Although, I did like ‘O-positive pal’…just saying.”
“I’ll keep that in mind Tabbruis. Anyway, when Shane told me he decided to attend Stony Brook University, go into the Army, and ask Sandra to marry him, he made me toast every important occasion with Glenfiddich Scotch. You must be a favorite person of his then. He would only toast to us unless he meant it with his heart.”
“Now, Charmeine you must get ready for the beach.”
While she was walking to the bedroom, she kidded, “Sure thing my blood-partner, my jugular chum, my toothy playmate, my hunter companion, my plasma buddy…any of those descriptions suit ya?” and she watched him as she closed the door.
