Down the corridor, Dmitri pulled Hera into a small study.

Deep inside her heart, Hera was still hurt. Even though she understood about how Bathsheba clouded his judgment, she could not understand how he could fall to pieces again. With this in mind, she most certainly did not want to be pulled anywhere by him. 

He closed the door, and immediately held her against his body so she could not leave his grasp. 

“Dmitri, release me now!” 

“I will not release you until you have forgiven me, Hera.” He bent down, and kissed her cheek.

“You have my forgiveness, now let me go!” she grumbled with clenched teeth.

“No, Hera…” he sighed with a lilt of shame. “I want you to forgive me,” and his eyes became pools of tears.

She could see his regret and offered, “Let your mind be finally at rest Dmitri. I believe you are truly sorry for your actions. I also believe you were tricked and deceived by Lucifer who sent the Witch.”

Suddenly, Hera hugged him as to hold his gorgeous body closer to her. With desperation, she pleaded, “My love, I ask your forgiveness too.”

“What?” He pulled away to look in her eyes. 

“For years Dmitri, I have harbored covetous jealousy toward you and Bathsheba. But, it was unfair to think you had any obligation to your deceased wife. You did not know I was in Heaven waiting to be released of my hold.”

“My lovely Hera, I understand. There is nothing to forgive,” he sighed as he shook his head.  

“That is exactly how I feel, Dmitri.” She threw herself into his embrace.

He held her close and wrapped his large arms around her tightly. Dmitri kissed her neck and whispered with a sexy tenor in his voice, “Hera, are you ready for this my dear?”

“No, but I will make do.” She looked away to avoid his eyes.

“When we get in there, do not hold back my love. Let me have it, as they say nowadays.” He took her face in his hands and growled with passion. “My divine Hera, I love you. As much as I regret my actions all those years ago, you can punish me until the end of time, and it will not take my shame away.”

“You should not carry that shame, Dmitri. Let it go. Release all the negative feelings you have. I love you, and I know you love me.” Tears streamed down Hera’s face.

He wiped each one as they fell.

“When I was a little girl, my dreams were filled with images of you. When we stared at each other across the crowded Agora Market Square, I knew you were my soul mate.” She released the tie which tucked away his long hair, and ran her fingers through it. Her body responded in kind to his sexual charisma and held him closer.

“You saw me in your dreams before we met? I never knew that, Hera. You should have told me,” he uttered while he enjoyed her touch.

She wet her lips, looked up through her thick lashes and replied, “Dmitri, even though you were my soul mate, I did enjoy the chase.”

He closed his eyes and smiled with the pleasure that Hera loved him at first sight.

“Dmitri, it does not take a mathematician to know the equation: love, plus love, equals love.”

As he burned with passion, Dmitri took her face in his hands, and kissed her sweet lips. The kiss turned into an explosion of want and sexual need. He pushed her against the wall.

Hera moaned, gripped him harder, and burrowed her fingernails into his backbone to keep a close embrace on him. She surrounded her legs around his waist.

He growled with pleasure.

Their desire was in the air like a warm energy which passed through them. They liquefied against the wall of the study, almost to the point of no return. Breathless with passion, they pulled away from each other.

“Now, that is what I call a makeup kiss, Dmitri.” She saw his eyes had become blue pinpoints from want.

“Hera, after this duty is over, I will come to you, and as they say…” he took her hands, pushed them against the wall palms up as pink light pulsed through their bodies which made every part warm and stimulated, “…you have not seen anything yet.”

“Husband,” she whispered, “I will be waiting for you to come to me,” and winked at him. Hera took a big breath and advised, “Unless you want to explain to the children the facts of life, you better calm down.”

Again, they pulled away from each other hot with passion.

“I will always have the need to kiss you, to be near you, to love you, my beautiful wife.”

Hera took the tie and began to gather his hair back into a ponytail.

Dmitri smiled because it felt good to have her hands in his hair. “I will show you that you are my one and only love.” He kissed her again with softness. As he let go of her, he could see her body blush as she bit her lip in anticipation.

Review of ETERNAL NIGHTS

I must try not to sound like a sales person, but this book was AMAZING!!!

I was captivated from the very first page and could not stop reading! I took this story with me everywhere; out to dinner, to the kitchen while I cooked dinner, I even read during some of my favorite television shows!

The chemistry and passion between Raphael and Jessica is breath taking and leaves you wanting to know more about these two and all the other players in V.S. Nelson’s series.

The internal struggle Jessica faces is amazingly written. You can’t help but cheer her on as she struggles to find a way to undo her grandmother’s magic. And then there is Raphael, every woman’s dream; he too has to fight his own demons in order to assist the woman he calls his angel.

This book (series) is so much more than any paranormal romance or urban fantasy I have read to date… how could I not recommend it?  And now the wait for book three in the series begins.

Jennifer couldn’t help herself; she burst out laughing picturing her oversized, muscle bound 5,000 year old immortal struggling with what normal folks did everyday.

“Jennifer, that’s not fair. Give a man a break, will ya?”

Her attempt to smother her laughter failed miserably.

“I know, but it’s just so damn funny. I know you probably haven’t had to fix yourself something to eat in what, a couple hundred years? …  Oh God, I think I’m so tired, I’m getting slap happy.”

More laughter erupted over the phone line.

“Glad I could bring a little sunshine into your life… and it’s been more like a couple of thousand years… Thank you very much… Now you want to tell me where I can find a couple of plates.”

“Try the cabinet above where you found the knife.”

He opened the cabinet she directed him to.

”Smart ass! I’m feeling rather stupid here and you’re not helping matters.”

“I’m sorry. So tell me something, why didn’t you call Harold and have him make you something? Or go back over to the Bunkhouse to eat?”

“Because I thought I could do it myself! Crap, I didn’t know I was going to need a God damn road map to find where everything was in your kitchen. Do you know how many damn drawers and cabinet are in this place?”

“You’re the one who had the house built… remember?”

“Yeah, don’t remind me. At this point I’m ready to blow up the damn thing… well at least the kitchen.”

“Hey, don’t you go doing anything to my kitchen. I like it just fine the way it is.”

“Too late.”

“What do you mean too late?”

Silence

“Gabriel, answer me… What did you do?”

“You know the center drawer on the china hutch–well it kind of had a little accident.”

“What do you mean it kind of had an accident, what happened?”

“Ah… a… the handle came off in my hand.”

“Not a big deal. When I get home, I’ll have the repair man come over and put it back on.”

“Ah… Honey… I don’t think it’s fixable.”

“Why not, it’s just a knob… the repairman can put it back on.”

“No, he can’t… Trust me on this one, ok?”

“Gabriel, tell me the truth, what happened?”

“Well, when the thing came off in my hand, the drawer fell onto the floor. I tried to pick it up and put it back together but I was already frustrated trying to find the damn knife and I guess the anger got the best of me…”

“WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED IN HERE… Did a bomb go off?”

Raphael’s loud voice echoed over the phone line. She heard her husband try and quiet Raphael by shushing him.

“Is that Jennifer?” Raphael asked, “If it is, you better not tell her… better yet, let me talk to her… Give me that phone.”

She could hear the little tug a war going on between the two. Raphael finally managed to get on the line.

“Hello, Jen… ah… ah… you’re still at the main house, right? …Good… because I don’t think you want to come home anytime soon… No, no, he’s ok… it’s your kitchen that has met with the destructive force of a hurricane…yeah, no problem… Un-huh… yeah, I’ll call a repairman… OK, here he is.”

Raphael handed the phone to Gabriel. “Here, she wants to talk to you.”

“Honey, as I was trying to explain, I just had a little accident with the china hutch… well hold on… I’m getting to that part… I was holding the knob in my hand when the drawer fell out then I guess I crushed it… and then I got mad because I knew you would be upset and I kicked the drawer… It kind of exploded into a hundred pieces… and the window broke… yes, I know… Yes, I should be more careful… Un-huh… not much else… I couldn’t figure out how to open the dishwasher… Yes, Dear… anyway… it kind of fell off its hinges too… not much else… except your oven isn’t working right. I tried to make some pasta and the door flew open and my pasta ended up… ok, here he is… I love you… Honey, I’m really sorry… ok, here he is.”

Paying it Forward by Volunteering

I’m often asked by family, friends and other authors, “why do I take on so much; why do I volunteer my services when others are quite capable of raising their hand?”

Why? The reasons are really quite simple.

First off, let me say that I want to give back to the community at large for their support and for everything they have helped me with in the past few years. If it wasn’t for the encouragement and training I have received directly and indirectly through organizations like the RWA chapters I belong to, I wouldn’t be where I am today, nor would I have ever re-joined the writing-publishing world after a long break.

I’ve never been one to sit on the sidelines and wait for things to happen. Even when I was in the educational field, I often found myself sitting on boards and judging events for students. I think I sold more cans of pop and washed more cars than anyone in my teaching career, hoping to raise enough money to take my students on a variety to field trips.

So I have applied the same practice to my writing career. Gladly, those days of washing cars are over. Now, I do what ever I can to “get involved” by surrounding myself with the talents of other writers. In a way, one might even consider me some sort of psychic vampire, as I tend to leave the writer’s meetings I attend, inspired. My word count usually doubles following a meeting where other authors are in attendance. But one can gain so much more than an increase of their daily word count by attending writer’s meetings.

On another note, I can’t help but wonder why someone would join a professional organization and not get involved or attend the monthly meetings.  More than once, I have met another author who claims they are a member, but then only attend one or two meetings a year–if that. What good are they getting out of their membership? I will admit, general meetings filled with business stats can be boring, but as a general rule there is so much more to each meeting one can benefit from. Guest speakers, writing professionals, and free workshops presented by some of the best in the business are given by most RWA chapters. So why not take advantage of what you are paying for? As Spock would say, “this is illogical.”

When I first joined Desert Rose, one of our local RWA chapters here in Arizona, I didn’t know anyone. The fear of walking into a room full of people you don’t know can be intimating to most. I know, because I was that someone. So what did I do? I took the cowards way out and brought someone with me. That way, if no one introduced themselves to me, I’d have at least someone to talk to. Surprisingly, my companion and I received a very warm welcome and I’ve been attending their meetings ever since. 

My first payback. During my first year, I soon found myself volunteering to work the door as a greeter. Since I received such a warm welcome, could I not do the same for another who was attending their first meeting? Oh, but I received so much more in volunteering, as it gave me the opportunity to meet those authors (up close and personal) who were “older and wiser” than I – those who had been members for years.

Conference time rolled around and since I was planning on attending so I could pitch my book, I found myself volunteering to work a variety of events. The conference was better than I anticipated for many reasons.  Not only did I receive several requests for my work, but I enjoyed and learned how writer’s conferences operated (first hand) by volunteering to work the agent-author room, the hospitality suite… and even the book store. Experience, like that can’t be bought and it is something I can use for the rest of my life.

My first year is long past and I still continue to attempt to pay it forward by giving back to the community who has helped me on the long and lonely road of a writer. I’m now a member of three RWA chapters and serve on two of those chapter’s boards. I’m also very involved in two other non-chapter related conferences in addition to our local one. I judge a variety of writer’s contests every year and am proud to say I do. I receive numerous non-solicited manuscripts with requests for critiques and reviews. I have yet to refuse a single one.

Giving back or paying it forward is this writer’s way of simply saying, thank you.

Bio of Author V.S. Nelson

Being a Native American woman and a Scorpio, author V.S. Nelson has always had a fondness for history, mythology, the occult, and the unexplained events which have occurred on this world we call home. It was no wonder she found herself writing a paranormal series.

Raised on authors like H.G. Wells and Jules Verne and coming from a long line of oral storytellers, Ms. Nelson work has been defined as innovative and fresh. Charmeine rented a private beach bungalow at the Galley Bay Hotel. She swam in the ocean and enjoyed the warm sun and water. Because it was so clear, she could see right to the ocean floor.

Her throat was parched and needed something to drink. She decided to come in for a rest, but hated to leave the water. To sit was a bit tricky because her belly had grown bigger, so she carefully lowered herself down on the blanket. Charmeine rubbed her belly as Baby Hunter turned inside because hunger panged throughout her body. She grabbed the water bottle and drank the liquid down in seconds.

Since she arrived in Antigua, Charmeine was lonely and hungry. She left the castle in a rush and did not take enough money. Because of Tabbruis’ wealth, she did not want to use a credit card. He would be able to track her down immediately, and she needed time to think. However, she barely had enough for rent on the bungalow, but not for much else.

As Charmeine dried herself, she thought about Tabbruis. In her heart, she wanted him and remembered the happy days they spent on the castle’s private beach in Romania. Softly, she muttered with tears welling in her eyes, “Tabbruis, you would have loved being here as much as we do. Am I right, Baby Hunter? Daddy would have loved this?”  

She felt the baby start to kick a lot. All of a sudden, she heard…

“I love being here with you, Charmeine, and Baby Hunter,” Tabbruis whispered.

Shocked and slightly on guard… she pointed her electrified hands at Tabbruis ready to defend herself. In a strangely calm way she asked with emphasis, “Are you, or anyone else, here to hurt my baby or kidnap me?” 

“No, it is just me! I would never hurt you or Baby Hunter!” He regained his composure and confessed, “Please believe me, Charmeine. I came because I need to beg your forgiveness.” 

His eyes said it all; she knew he said the truth. 

Slowly, as if in a dream, Charmeine looked at Tabbruis’ body as the sun silhouetted it like he was an outer world being…an Angel. He was gorgeous. She could not help but rake her eyes over him. Tabbruis had a GQ Island outfit on with a tight t-shirt. She could see the muscles in his arms, chest and abs. He also had a pair of Banana Republic shorts on, which emphasized his powerful legs. His emerald eyes were in pinpoints with desire.

Her hands went down to the blanket to shift her weight.

He saw her adjust and pleaded, “Charmeine, do not run away from me. Please let me explain.”

“I’m not running anywhere,” she smirked. “I’m getting comfortable. If I stay in one position too long, I have to shift, because Baby Hunter will put pressure on whatever internal organ he or she is laying on.”

“May I touch…?” he asked, as he tentatively sat down beside her.

“Sure, Baby Hunter knows you are here, this is the most active he or she has been in days.”

Charmeine wore a swimming suit with a sports bra and boy shorts.

When he touched her naked belly, it felt warm with lots of kicks from Baby Hunter.

She blushed with his touch and had to admit it felt good to have his strong hand on her.

“I think Baby Hunter is giving me high fives,” he described. He smiled and laughed, “I do not know how it is possible, but you have gotten bigger, Charmeine.”

“Oh, it’s possible,” she responded with a grin. “Unfortunately, I’ll get a lot bigger before Baby Hunter makes his or her appearance.”

“I have missed this,” his eyes brimmed with tears.

“You missed me getting beat up inside by my own child?” she laughed and laid back on the blanket to rest.

Tabbruis chuckled, laid on his side with one hand under his head. His other hand was on her belly. “No, I missed this, Charmeine. Talking to you, having my hand on Baby Hunter, and looking in your eyes. There is nowhere else I would like to be.” 

“I know you are telling me the truth. I see it in your eyes,” she sighed and gently confessed, “I have missed this too, Tabbruis.” 

He lit up with a smile and sighed with a far off look on his face.

“Why?” She studied his expression and asked, “Why are you smiling?”

“I am remembering one of the first times you called me, Tabbruis. It melted my heart when you said it sweetly like you did just now.”

Fondly she pouted and remembered, “Ah yes, it was back at the Ritz-Carlton, and you were angry because we had the same dream. I said you should call the ‘Dream Police’.” 

He started to laugh, and to his surprise, Baby Hunter jumped. “Did you feel that Charmeine?” 

“Are you nuts?” She grinned. “Are you mental? I feel everything.”

He began to laugh, and the baby jumped up and down again.

“Baby Hunter likes it when you laugh, just like…like me, Tabbruis.” She rubbed side of her belly.

He stretched out his fingers, took Charmeine’s hand and put it on top of Baby Hunter under his. To his amazement, tendrils of light danced around both of their hands.

She yawned and closed her eyes.

“Charmeine?” and saw she was asleep in an instant.

He looked at the light which surrounded his hand, and it became soft with an occasional glow. He was so happy to touch her again, tears streamed down his cheeks.

Tabbruis pressed a gentle kiss on her forehead and said in a soft voice, “Though I was far away, you were in my heart Charmeine. You will always be with me, because you are the light in my dark soul. I am lost without your love. I was such a stupid fool and need you to forgive me.”

She did not hear his declaration, but Tabbruis felt her heart skip a beat.

SYNOPSIS of Next You: Destined for Something

My Review of Next You:Destined for Something 

I am fessing up to something that I shouldn’t reveal to my die hard Vampire buddies, but I am an avid Sci-Fi fan.

Angus H. Day writes a fascinating tale of a quirky hero Felix Dernoft! Ah yes, Felix, the really complex, hero of Next You: Destined for Something.

I have to give Mr. Day a pat on the back for the out right complexity in the novel. It required me to read things over and over again.  Next You: Destined for Something.is not a book that you can just gloss over, you have to really read it and digest it and in the end, the base story is what counted.

I was intrigued by the flashbacks. However, I was able to adapt and it was kind of nice to be treated as a Mr. Day only does.  Next You: Destined for Something had twists and turns in the story with Felix. There was Aliens and Adventure, but there was also Romance. Everything in the story was good because they were explained.

I had to grit my teeth because I was forced to close my Kindle after half Next You: Destined for Something was read. Because it had captured my attention. For sure the next morning I was up reading until I finished!

Okay, okay, I will go hide in my Sci-Fi closet again.  But you better bet the next book in the series will be in my Kindle!

Well done Mr. Day!  I recommend this book for readers who are “grab you by the shirt” readers, and I sure am glad I am part of that audience.

Interview with Angus H. Day

How old were you when you wrote your first piece?

I was forty eight when I finished my first novel.

What was it, and in what genre?

Legacy of Daddy and Science Fiction is the larger of the boxes it inhabits.

What made you write it?

I ran out of excuses not to write it and everyone since.  Lots of persons would like to write a novel or produce a piece of artwork and never get around to it because they let negativity control their lives.  That is no way to live.

What have you written since then?

Next You Interstellar LLC, Having Nice Things, Utopian Estates and Destined for Something.

What was the inspiration for your current book?

Originally I wanted to create a Character that everyone would hate, reveling in that being suffering for being an ass all the time.  By chapter two I knew I couldn’t go through with that as it was an unworthy goal.  I like to write stories that I would like to read.  So Destined for Something became a story of change and growth for one Felix Dernoft with dystopian society, space opera, aliens and romance transforming the life of one all thought of as collateral damage into an epic journey.

Tell us a little about it, and where it’s available?

Felix Dernoft was an accident from conception.  Born during the time of the Writ of Exchange his mother’s life was spared since she had skills as an Astrogator and Felix was a ward of the Indianapolis Dome-state where he was raised through mandatory school in an at best indifferent system.  Not happy with the sewer worker career plan the state has in mind for him he begins to try different things to improve his lot.  As a B-strander he should never have amounted to much.  He rises above.   Destined for Something is available in print through Amazon and as an ebook through Amazon and everywhere Smashwords distributes.

Is there a particular place or setting where you get your writing ideas?

Everywhere is a place.  I’m an author and I can make that happen.  That is also my answer because my stories do not come from a particular place or setting but encompass ideas gleaned from a lifetime of reading and experience.

What made you choose either traditional or independent publishing?

I’m starting this late in life and I was determined that if I was going to make my work available to readers then the route should not include languishing on some persons slush pile, at best waiting for a middle person to deem the taste of the public ready.  Why would I willingly put someone else in charge of me?  I believe from being a consumer that the Big Five are running corporate models and not looking for good reads so it didn’t make any sense to wait on their leisure.  The last straw was that I took some advice from an author who writes media tie in novels in the traditional jungle.  He pointed me at Smashwords and explained why he would do it if he wasn’t currently contract bound.  The only caveat I would add to that is that by transitioning to Independent Publishing more doors open for your work and you share the promotion load.

If you had to choose the most important element in an author’s platform, what would it be?

Don’t make it pressure cooking work.  Gain moderate well crafted ground on your writing on a daily basis but cut it off after a couple of hours unless you are into a really happening roll.  If it isn’t fun to create, don’t expect the reader to enjoy it.

What mistakes have you made in regards to publishing and marketing your work, and what will you do differently in the future?

The biggest mistake I’ve made is probably my early attempts at covers.  I needed to accept that my contribution to this was the story and telling it.  Cover art sells books, inner matter quality hooks readers.  I’ve also had some editorial battles over story direction and have since determined what qualities I look for in an editor.

Do you have an idea for your next book?

At this time I’m midway through the writing process of a book I’m titling Native Heart.  It is the first of a four book mini-arc within the Next You Universe franchise.  The entire mini-arc is entitled Minus a Conscience.  Two operators for the Intersystem Alliance are sent to a planet in the Rakan empire to raise an indigenous force to cause problems for the Rakans.  These operators are not in human bodies and one of the two was cloned of the DNA soup made from a  mix of the most vile assassins for the previous three centuries.  Half the population of the planet Naif still embraces technology and the other half avoids it with a religious fervor.  How do you win that half over to your side?  Fasten your seat belt and start your engines.

BIO of Author Angus H. Day

I live in Fort Collins Colorado with my wife and son. My daughter has embarked on her career as a graphics designer. I’ve been an Infantryman, Swine Farmer, smattering of other trades and jobs and now I’m a manufacturing pharmaceutical chemist. What aspect of my life that is devoted to fitness favors swimming in open water which means I spend most of the year working out in a pool then hit the lakes when it warms up a bit. My wife Cheryl safety kayaks for me when we manage to make it work. One day when I was waiting on everybody else in the house to get off of the computer when it hit me. Start doing what I had wanted to do for the last thirty years, write science fiction stories. I’ve read extensively, experienced way more than a person is entitled to and I am a scientist. That being said, sometimes I just pull them out of my ass. The ability to picture a scene in my head helps, once I stop laughing uncontrollably for no reason.

 What inspires you to write?

I find inspiration everywhere—in the world around me, in the words of other authors, in images that move me. As much as we would like our work to be completely original, creations sparked solely from our imagination; that simply isn’t true. Most of us begin writing because of our great love for books. Usually our favorite authors have shaped the way we write and then our imagination takes over to craft worlds of our own.

Tell us about your writing process:

Well I start each day with a cup of coffee and I check my e-mail. I do any housework or other non-writing activities that I need to accomplish for the day. My children and I eat an early lunch together. Once my kids go in for a nap I write. I work on my blog and continue writing at night when they’re in bed. I write everyday with the goal of writing 2K but with young children, this isn’t always a realistic goal. Typically, I write anywhere from 500 words to 2K a day. The most I’ve written in one day is 4K.

What advice would you give other writers?

Do it every day. Practice. Join a writing group. Go to conferences. Listen to your gut.

How did you decide how to publish your books?

I probably read as many blogs and I do books. And I experiment. Fortunately, I get to interact with a lot of different people through my blog—both readers and other writers that I’ve interviewed. I don’t like to speculate but I see a trend toward self-publishing as a viable and valid method. And a lot of successful people have paved the way for less experienced writers. We now have a lot of tools at our disposal, with a blueprint laid out to help us reach our publishing goals on our own terms. In the future, I can foresee publishers expecting authors to prove that they can establish their own platform, readership, and sell books before signing them.
